Capvidia is True MBD: 3D CAD translation & validation that is both human & machine readable from design to manufacturing

About us

Capvidia provides True MBD (model-based definition). 21st-century problems need 21st-century solutions. Traditional drawing-based workflows weren't built for the era of the internet and Big Data. Model-based workflows are. Capvidia supports 3D CAD models with semantic PMI (QIF or STEP AP242) that can be both human-readable & machine-readable—a single source of truth. This empowers all downstream applications in design, manufacturing, quality, and other departments. Capvidia provides MBD workflows in CAD translation and validation, interoperable data to share with various systems (CAD, CAM, CMM, etc.), and opportunities in model-based enterprise and digital transformation that affect product line and bottom line.

A mother lode of valuable insights from Lockheed Martin about their #MBD/MBE strategy: ➡ MBE practices allow for 2-3x faster design and engineering work. ➡ Using models throughout the supply chain reduce machine and inspection programming by up to 90%. ➡ LM has started transitioning to MBE with a planned completion by 2028. ➡ Suppliers embracing MBE will have a business advantage with new programs levying MBE practices. 📣 We are excited to announce Capvidia as a returning Event Sponsor! Capvidia provides True MBD (model-based definition). Model-based definition #MBD is leveraging the 3D CAD model to become the authoritative information source for a product’s lifecycle. This is done by including semantic as-built product manufacturing information (PMI) within the human- and machine-readable 3D CAD model, resulting in automation, faster time-to-market, and building a digital thread from as-designed to as-built. Innovators in digital manufacturing have seen double-digital productivity gains (up to 20%) with the adoption of model-based workflows. Learn more & register today → www.3dcic.com "3D CIC is an outstanding event for learning about the current state of engineering data best practices, and what is currently in development. I was able to meet with other leaders developing their processes and have very open discussions about what is best for each of us." - 2024 CIC Attendee

Capvidia's tradeshow season is done for 2024. Here are our takeaways for the year: ✅ PTC/USER, Inc. continues to be a "for the people, by the people" conference, with great conversations between end-users and influencers. ✅ 3D CIC Conference #3DCIC made its glorious return. The industry needs an MBD/MBE-focused conference to grow. ✅ MBE & QIF Summit also returned, with George Rendell of Siemens Digital Industries Software announcing model-based characteristics in a future version of NX. ✅ #RealiveLIVE saw a growing conversation with MBD, QIF, persistent IDs, and characteristic accountability. ✅ IMTS - International Manufacturing Technology Show proved that MBD is growing, with large suppliers asking about handling MBD data from their customers. ✅ #GPDIS continued the theme of a model-based approach from the United States Department of Defense, emphasizing a digital engineering framework: digital models, digital twins, digital threads, digital artifacts, etc. What other tradeshows and conferences do you think Capvidia should attend for 2025 and beyond?

We're at GPDIS 2024 this week! This year's theme is Digital Engineering in the Model-Based Extended Enterprise. Our own Rudy Lozano is presenting Implementing Model-Based Design in Real-World Scenarios. Other talks we recommend attending: ➡ Evan Kessick, GDTP-S and Michael Werkheiser: Characteristic Accountability with MBD and QIF. ➡ Tony Provencal and Tom Shaughnessy: Validation Strategies for Enterprise Use of 3D Model Data

Here are our four key takeaways from IMTS 2024 on the MBD/MBE industry: ✅ The industry is witnessing a significant rise in awareness of Model-Based Definition (MBD). More companies are actively seeking to integrate MBD into their existing drawing-based workflows, with many asking how to prepare for a full transition. ✅ Major customers are now demanding that their large suppliers handle MBD data, underscoring the growing importance of maintaining a competitive advantage. ✅ There is a strong interest in platforms like MBDVidia that seamlessly manage both 2D and 3D workflows, reflecting the industry's need for integrated solutions. ✅ The Quality Information Framework (QIF) is gaining traction, with increased adoption among customers and their CMM software vendors, indicating a broader industry shift towards standardized data management. Thanks to Daniel, Jason, Jimmy, Lyle, Rudy, Tomasz, and Victor for a great show. See you in 2026. #imts #mbd #qif

"You want to be human-readable AND machine-readable. The true benefit is to automate things downstream." Trent Stone of GE Appliances, a Haier company One of the core tenets of true model-based definition (MBD) is both human-readability and machine-readability. Machine-readable data provides automation and interoperable data downstream. Beyond automation, valuable insights and business decisions can be made by examining data from a single source of truth rather than tribal knowledge locked in disparate sources.
