🌍 Tackling Climate Anxiety in the Workplace 🌍 Last Thursday, in honor of World Mental Health Day, The Carbonauts hosted the second installment in our Sustainability Salon Series. Moderated by climate and sustainability consultant and content strategist, Mara Ranville, PhD., a lively panel of sustainability experts to discuss how climate anxiety is affecting the workplace and how organizations can address it – and even find opportunity in it. Emphasizing the need for empathetic leadership and mental health prioritization, our panel offered insight into strategies and put a spotlight on actionable steps that can be used in any industry to help employees not only cope, but thrive. Panelists & Highlights: Andrew Boyd – Author, Humorist, Activist, and CEO of The Climate Clock Project pointed out the importance of pairing clear solutions with a sense of urgency in encouraging people to take action. Nicole Kelner – Artist, Author, and Founder of Arts and Climate Change shared the story of how her mindful eco-art workshops have helped people imagine solutions for a brighter, better future. Margaret Klein Salamon – Executive Director of Climate Emergency Fund emphasized that we should acknowledge climate anxiety as a natural reaction to current affairs and the world we live in. Doing so can help organizations shape successful approaches to climate, decarbonization, and employee wellbeing. Heather White – Founder and CEO of OneGreenThing illustrated how empathetic leadership and carefully understanding how employees are experiencing climate anxiety can help foster workplace (and other) solutions. Audience members from across the country also shared their own anecdotes, questions, and insights. From mindfulness events to collaborative activities, the conversation underscored the best ways to engage workforces in climate literacy and environmental goals while helping ease their associated anxiety.
