A single infusion of a gene-editing medicine may control inherited high LDL cholesterol. “Instead of daily pills or intermittent injections over decades to lower bad cholesterol, this study reveals the potential for a new treatment option – a single-course therapy that may lead to deep LDL-C lowering for decades,” said senior study author Andrew M. Bellinger, M.D., Ph.D., chief scientific officer at Verve Therapeutics in Boston. https://lnkd.in/eYd26E-G

Did you know? Air fresheners, scented candles, and strong perfumes may smell nice, but they could be harming your health! These products release tiny particles into the air that can irritate your nose and respiratory system. This irritation may increase your chances of catching the flu or other respiratory infections. How? The particles make your nose work overtime to filter them out, potentially weakening its natural defenses against viruses and bacteria. This is especially important during flu season! When viruses are more prevalent, you want your respiratory defenses operating at their best. Consider going fragrance-free or using natural alternatives like essential oil diffusers or opening windows for fresh air. Your nose (and immune system) will thank you! #HealthAwareness #IndoorAirQuality #RespiratoryHealth #FluSeason #GeriatricCareManagement #SeniorCare #ElderlySupport #CompassionateCare #AgingGracefully #Wellbeing #QualityOfLife #FamilyMatter #CareCollective #CareCollectiveHealth

“Several evenings a week, as Tyler VanderWeele gathers around the dinner table with his wife and two young kids, the family deliberately pauses during the meal to do something simple but profound. Each member shares several things for which they're grateful — an act that VanderWeele, co-director of the Initiative on Health, Spirituality, and Religion at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, feels changes his family dynamic for the better. "I do think it makes a difference and can be a very powerful practice," he says. "Even on those bad days where life seems difficult, that effort is worthwhile." https://lnkd.in/eumyUJDk #GeriatricCareManagement #SeniorCare #ElderlySupport #CompassionateCare #AgingGracefully #Wellbeing #QualityOfLife #FamilyMatter #CareCollective #CareCollectiveHealth

In January 2023, the World Health Organization came out with a strong statement: there is no safe level of drinking for health. What about red wine? Wasn’t this supposed to be good for us? Two decades back, studies emerged that hinted that red wine could benefit the heart, especially as part of a Mediterranean diet. The alcohol industry has been savvy here and funded studies that – surprise, surprise – show the benefits of moderate drinking. This is a lesson in why you should always look at who funds the study, and whether there’s a conflict of interest. Each day, we humans make decisions over the risks we take, and those of us who work in public health have to remember that not everyone is concerned only with living longer; feeling satisfied in how we live each day is also important. We eat that doughnut or bag of crisps, even though we know it’s not great for us, just as we drive long distances on motorways knowing there’s always the risk of a fatal traffic accident. And with alcohol, for many people there’s happiness in sharing a bottle of wine or grabbing a few pints with friends. There’s no moral judgment in how people choose to live their life and the choices they make. But, yes, drinking carries a health risk, and it’s worth us, and governments, finally acknowledging this fact, even if we’d prefer not to think about it. * Prof Devi Sridhar is chair of global public health at the University of Edinburgh #CareManagement, #Healthcare, #CareCoordination, #ElderCare, #Alzheimers, #PatientAdvocacy, #HealthcareNavigators, #AgingParents, #ChronicCare, #SeniorCare, #HealthcareSupport, #HealthServices, #CaregiverSupport, #elderlycarespecialist, #MentalHealth, #Dementia, #HealthAdvocates, #CareCollective, #PersonalizedCare, #GericatricCareManagement https://lnkd.in/dN_XqSSD

Treating failing eyesight and high cholesterol are two new ways to lower the risk of dementia developing, a major report suggests. Scientists have now identified 14 health issues which, if reduced or eliminated, could theoretically prevent nearly half of dementias in the world. https://lnkd.in/e4tTpnGc #CareManagement #Caregiving #SeniorCare #Healthcare #HomeCare #aging #elderly #olderadults #professionalcaregivers #caregivers #vetting #gigeconomy #independentcontractors #ethics #patientadvocacy #chronicillness #dementia #Alzheimers #disabilities #familycaregivers #familycaregiving #patientexperience #caregiversupport #carecollective #carecollectivehealth

Walking after eating is a simple way to support mental and physical health. Studies back up the benefits of walking after eating, including a brighter mood, smoother digestion, steadier blood sugar, and increased circulation (which can boost energy as well as mental clarity). No time to walk? Even standing will score you some of the same benefits. However, if you have time for a two- to 30-minute walk, you’ll have a better chance of feeling the difference of walking after eating—inside your brain and throughout your body. #CareManagement #Caregiving #SeniorCare #Healthcare #HomeCare #aging #elderly #olderadults #professionalcaregivers #caregivers #vetting #gigeconomy #independentcontractors #ethics #patientadvocacy #chronicillness #dementia #Alzheimers #disabilities #familycaregivers #familycaregiving #patientexperience #caregiversupport #carecollective #carecollectivehealth https://lnkd.in/ewApDesk

Uber has always been an innovative and disruptive company in transport industry. However, their latest venture called Uber Caregivers has sparked heated debates around worker rights, safety standards, and the ethics of outsourcing caregiving duties. Uber Caregivers aims to provide affordable in-home care services by connecting patients and families with freelance caregivers through the Uber app. There are concerns about the level of training and vetting required for caregivers dealing with vulnerable populations. We firmly believe that caregiving duties for our loved ones should be entrusted to licensed professionals or devoted family members, not freelance gig workers. By collaborating with our established and reputable partners in the healthcare industry, we can confidently provide our clients with meticulously vetted and carefully matched caregivers who uphold the highest standards of training, expertise and compassion. We are very curious to see how this Uber Caregivers project will unfold. What are your thoughts on Uber's foray into the caregiver space? #CareManagement #Caregiving #SeniorCare #Healthcare #HomeCare #aging #elderly #olderadults #licensedcaregivers #professionalcaregivers #caregivers #vetting #independentcontractors #workersrights #ethics #patientadvocacy #uber #ubercaregivers #chronicillness #dementia #Alzheimers #disabilities #familycaregivers #familycaregiving #patientexperience #caregiversupport #carecollective
