In October 2022, I had someone who told me- right when the tech layoffs started happening, as the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays were fast approaching- that sending applications was getting her nowhere and if she didn't land a job by March 2023, she would be required to move back to her country of origin. Long story short, I didn't want her to risk making a misstep because the consequences would mean missing her visa deadline, so in the interest of time, I'd tweak her job search materials for her, find her the right jobs to apply to, reach out to all my connections and those who I didn't even know but who could potentially lead to opportunities for her, because I knew the US needed someone with her talent and potential. In the end, she not only got her offer before her visa expired, but she received a couple other offers and several job leads, which she generously shared with her friends who were still looking. It was that experience with her and several other job searchers where I decided to take things a step further and not just coach them but also take on whatever job search tasks were getting in the way of interviews and offers, that led me to come up with a program that has become The Job Search Accelerator, which I'm rather fond of because I'm able to use my own transferable skills to help people land jobs faster, with no guesswork and less frustration. Job search tools are awesome except a lot of job searchers don't even have the time to devote to job searching. Career coaches are great (yes, I'm biased because I happen to be a career coach) except career coaches are there to guide you, support you and teach you. They're not there to do your job searching for you. If you don't have the time to job search or have been DIY'ing it for so long that the very idea of sending out yet another application - knowing that you're most likely going to get rejected- makes your stomach hurt, all these tools and resources aren't as useful as they could be. Long before I was a career coach, I was in recruiting. I enjoyed 3rd party recruiting the most because of the sales/biz dev aspect of "The Hunt". No surprise there because before I was ever a recruiter, I was in 100% commission sales roles. I was responsible for finding my own client leads and sourcing my own candidates. Luckily, prior to doing sales, I'd worked both as an ad agency AE and PR Director, and then as a marketing director so I was able to augment the selling with my background in integrated marketing. How is The Job Search Accelerator different? Job searching is sales and marketing at a micro-level. I don't treat you as someone who needs to be career coached. I treat you like I did every client that came to me for recruiting, sales and marketing assistance. And guess what? It works! Spots are limited because, admittedly, there's only one of me and it is labor-intensive. Sign up for a free initial consultation to see if it's the right solution for you. #jobsearchtip

💡 Why Keeping Your Job Search Funnel Full is Essential For those of us who have been in agency recruiting and sales (3rd party recruiting IS sales, btw, because we have to sell our services to clients and we then have to sell our clients to passive candidates and then turn around and sell our candidates to the hiring managers), the feast-or-famine cycle is a very real thing and you learn to juggle keeping the funnel full with doing what's needed to make placements as a matter of survival. Early on, because I would often focus all my energies on filling my job requisitions, I'd neglect the business development side and my sales funnel would dry up, and then the panic and desperation would cause me to take on less-than-ideal clients or roles, which led to a lot of stress, months of work that I never saw commissions on and moments where I wished I could just be a hermit on a deserted island. This isn't just limited to recruiters and sales people but applies to job seekers as well so learn from my mistakes and keep your job search funnel full not just by applying and following up but by networking regularly (attend industry events, join professional groups, connect with people on LinkedIn and engaging authentically in industry-relevant conversations). If you keep your job search funnel full, you'll benefit from the following: ✅Confidence Boost that comes from knowing you have multiple opportunities lined up ✅ Options ! If you have several job prospects, you can choose the one that fits you best, instead of settling for the first offer that comes your way. ✅ Market Knowledge. Actively searching and having lots of conversations with recruiters, hiring managers and people at your target companies keeps you in the loop about current job market trends and what skills are in demand. ✅ Interview Practice. The more interviews you go through, the better you get at them and the more comfortable and confident you'll be! ✅ Negotiation Power. With multiple offers on the table, you have better leverage to negotiate salaries and benefits. If you need help keeping your funnel full, that's where my past experience not just as a recruiter but as someone who has been in sales and handled the marketing efforts for clients ranging from solopreneurs to multi-billion dollar projects comes in (Hooray for transferable skills, amiright?!!!). Book a consultation with me so that I can give you actionable recommendations that you can start implementing after our call. #JobSearch #JobSearchTips #JobMarket #InterviewTips #JobHunting

🚫 Why Saying "No, Thank You" Can Be the Best Career Move 🚫 Not every opportunity is the right opportunity. Learning to say no to job offers that aren’t the right fit is a crucial career skill that can save you from frustration, burnout, and a mismatched role. I haven’t included salary in the list below because, obviously, if the company’s not paying you a fair and commensurate wage that meets with your expectations, why pursue it in the first place? 🚩5 red flags you should never ignore when considering a job offer: 1️⃣ Vague job descriptions – If you can’t tell what you’d actually be doing, there’s probably a reason. 2️⃣ High turnover – You’re not a revolving door, don’t treat your career like one. 3️⃣ Culture clash – Do you really want to spend 40+ hours in a place that feels like it clashes with your key values?   4️⃣ Lack of growth opportunities – If you’re not moving forward, you're staying stuck. 5️⃣ Inconsistent communication – If they’re ghosting you now, imagine what it’ll be like later. Being crystal clear about what you want from your next role and approaching your job search strategically can save you valuable time and help avoid costly career missteps. It’s not just about saying no—it’s about knowing why you’re saying no. That said, when you say no, do it in a way that you don’t burn bridges. I’m a firm believer that there are no random connections. You never know where your next great opportunity will come from! If you need to say no gracefully, say something like this (make it your own, obviously): Subject: Thank you! Hi [Interviewer's Name], I wanted to extend my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to interview for the [position] at [company name]. It was a pleasure to learn more about your team and the exciting work you’re doing. After careful consideration, I have decided that the role may not be the best fit for me after all. This decision was not made lightly, and it in no way reflects any negative impression of your organization or the role. I believe this position is a fantastic opportunity, but I have decided to pursue a different direction that aligns more closely with my current career goals. Thank you again for the time and effort you and your team invested in the interview process. I truly appreciate it and wish you continued success in your future endeavors. #jobsearch #jobsearchtips

Job Searcher Spotlight: Christopher Holloway A candidate's soft skills are just as important as their hard skills. For as long as I've known Chris, he has exemplified a willingness to go above and beyond what it takes to get the job done. He's also incredibly humble. Chris' story of how he would take on odd jobs to earn extra money while going for his ultimate goal is just another example of why he'd be a great asset to any team that he joins! #cloudtech #solutionsengineer #opentowork BTW, I've written about being open to taking on bridge jobs while you're job searching (I'll post a link to it in the comments below). I've had to do it in the past, and so have many friends and associates of mine who are incredible recruiters and mid- to senior level professionals whose careers have experienced upheaval due to the job market. Taking on a bridge job while you're looking is nothing to be ashamed of. It pays the bills and at the end, you pick up a new skill and a new way of looking at things.

🔔 Job Search Tip: Be selective when you take job search advice. Always vet before you accept. A third of the gray hairs on my head are from the aggravation of hiring managers saying, "They were great. But can you find me a few more candidates?" or "We need a (insert senior level role here), but the max we can pay is (insert entry to mid-level salary range here)" back in my recruiting days, and another third are from job searchers who aren't selective about whose advice to follow so they wind up in job search hell, thinking they're doing exactly what they should be doing. The last third batch of gray hairs are a memento from my mortgage lending days of yore when homebuyers would do exactly what was on my Things NOT To Do list at the start of the homebuying process ("Didn't I say NOT to open any new credit cards, co-sign for anyone's loans or make any new large purchases because now your debt ratio is above the limit and your credit score just dropped below 620 so now you don't qualify for a mortgage in order to close escrow!" to which the answer was, "My brother-in-law who used to be an appraiser said I'd be fine and to go ahead and buy furniture for the new house."). All that said, here are 5 ways to vet job search advice before deciding whether to take it: 1️⃣ Consider the Source Is the advice coming from a career professional, an industry insider, or someone who has successfully navigated the job market? If it’s from your cousin who hasn’t applied for a job in 10 years, maybe rethink it. 2️⃣ Check for Alignment with Current Trends  The job market evolves quickly, so advice from 5–10 years ago may no longer apply. Do a quick search or consult experts to confirm if the suggestion matches today's job search practices. 3️⃣ Look for Evidence or Success Stories Has this advice worked for others? If the person offering advice can’t point to concrete examples or personal success stories, it may not be reliable. 4️⃣ Consult Multiple Sources  Cross-check the advice against multiple reputable sources (career coaches, industry blogs, LinkedIn posts from hiring managers, etc.). If it’s legit, you’ll likely find similar guidance elsewhere. 5️⃣ Trust Your Gut and Experience If the advice feels wrong or seems to contradict your understanding of the job market, don’t follow it blindly. Your instincts, combined with your experience, can be a solid guide. #jobsearch #jobsearchtip #careeradvice #careercoach #jobsearchstrategist

The Job Search TLDR: 👏 We got a September Surprise (the good kind) thanks to a strong gain of 254,000 jobs in September after months of cooling in the labor market. 😑 Companies aren't doing as many layoffs as in 2023 BUT they're not hiring a lot of people nor as quickly either, and the situation isn't likely to change at least until after the elections, the Fed Reserve and interest rates. My advice is this: Stop throwing job search spaghetti on the wall in the hope that something sticks (which is pretty much what applying to jobs is like these days) and make the effort to be extremely strategic by honing in on a list of target companies and going after them. That said, here's a list of 5 things that you can do to streamline your job search process. #jobsearch #jobsearchtips #careeradvice

🌟 3 Ways to Be a Memorable Job Candidate 🌟 Over the years, I’ve had my share of pretty memorable candidates (both good-memorable and bad-memorable). I’ve also seen job seekers who weren’t the strongest technically or who had less experience than their peers, but they were able to successfully navigate the competitive landscape because part of their job search skill set was knowing how to be memorable. Add these 3 strategies to your job search arsenal if you want to stand out and leave a lasting impression: 1. Craft a strong pitch: When someone asks, “Tell me about yourself,” (I hate that question, by the way. It’s nebulous, which is why a lot of people start talking about their spouse, kids, dogs, hobbies and all manner of things that have nothing to do with the job they’re applying for). Create a concise, engaging pitch that focuses on the impact you made in your previous roles and how your skills solve a potential employer’s needs.  This is where personal branding is important. Use variations of this pitch in the summary portion of your resume, your LinkedIn About section, the elevator pitch that you use at networking events and a slightly longer for interviews that ties your value prop to a company’s pain points. 2. Go Beyond the Job Description: If you’re getting ready for an interview, go above and beyond what your competition would do. You’d think it would be common sense to read the job description in preparation for an interview but you’d be surprised at how many candidates just skim it. Don’t stop there!  Research the company, its culture, and its recent achievements. Understand their pain points and how your skills can address them. (An easy way to do this all in one fell swoop is by going through a business’ Linkedin company page!) During interviews, weave this knowledge into your answers—it shows you’ve done your homework and genuinely care about the role. 3. Showcase Your Soft Skills: Technical skills matter, but soft skills are equally - if not more- crucial. When potential employers are able to see evidence of essential soft skills like communication, adaptability, teamwork, and problem-solving, you’ll stand out, so make sure to share specific examples of how you’ve demonstrated these skills in real-world situations. Bonus Tip: Follow Up Thoughtfully: After an interview or networking event, send a personalized thank-you email.  Mention specific points from your conversation to jog their memory. (BTW, no, it won’t take you out of the running if you’re interviewing, but it’s a much-appreciated gesture that can never hurt. Social graces never go out of style.) 💡Please like, share, comment and follow if you found post helpful. 💡 If you’d like to know how I’ve helped job searchers land their jobs faster, with no guesswork and less frustration - even when they had less experience than their competition, even at the peak of the layoffs- please reach out! #jobsearch #jobsearchtips #careeradvice
