Thank you to Alex Kotran and Christian Pinedo from aiEDU.org for joining the CareerVillage.org team this week on an insightful conversation about the intersection of #AI, #education, and the #workforce! ➡️ Top 3 takeaways: 1️⃣ AI is already dramatically reshaping the workforce. AI will continue to shape industries, job markets, and education. The changed nature of work will lead to a restructuring of how jobs are perceived and pursued. 2️⃣ Preparing students and workers for this new world of work is becoming an increasingly urgent challenge. Traditional white-collar jobs, which have been seen as aspirational career paths, may be among the most vulnerable to AI automation in the coming years. People will need to consider (and they'll need the tools to help them! 🛠️) the rapidly evolving workforce landscape when making career decisions. 3️⃣ Students, especially those from marginalized backgrounds, MUST be engaged in this conversation! AI literacy and readiness are vital. Educating students about AI’s capabilities and limitations is crucial for their future career success. We must encourage parents, educators, coaches, counselors, and others to raise and discuss these topics. We just released a white paper on the framework behind how Coach creates impact, and how that impact can be measured. Please read the white paper, take our ideas back to your work, and tell us how we can make our framework even better. We believe we’re on the cutting edge in some ways, but can stand on the shoulders of giants in others. Career development isn’t new – and a lot of how Coach creates impact is steeped in decades of research and practice. By sharing our approach, our methodology, and some of our early findings (both the promising and the challenging) we’re hoping others will join us in improving your career development practices. What excites me most about this white paper is that it's a first step in rigorously evaluating how AI can complement human efforts in career development. We're not just building a tool; we're developing a framework to understand its impact and effectiveness. Some key insights: 1. Coach’s impact measurement is set up to address a critical gap in understanding how career readiness technologies can impact occupational identity development. 2. 81% of users in a pilot study with Generation.org found a beta version of Coach provided effective employability coaching 3. 90% of users in that same study prefer a blend of AI coaching and human mentorship - an insight we're excited to explore further This is a beginning.
