In honor of National Public Health Week, we celebrate the researchers who make the Scripps Research Digital Trials Center’s PowerMom Study possible. These researchers work tirelessly to reduce health disparities and improve pregnancy and postpartum outcomes among all pregnant people and their babies. This research is especially important as the US experiences a worsening maternal health crisis. Pregnant people have historically been excluded from medical research, resulting in a gap in knowledge about the health of pregnant people and their babies. To address this gap and include pregnant people in safe research, the PowerMom study uses app-based surveys and wearable sensors to make participating in research easier and more accessible. To date, PowerMom has enrolled over 3,000 participants from all 50 states. These numbers demonstrate the potential of engaging, digital programs to act as a bridge and strong motivation amongst pregnant people to contribute to meaningful research, helping to create safer future pregnancies.
