🌟 Happy International Women’s Day! 🌟 Today, we honor the incredible women in veterinary medicine who have broken barriers and paved the way for future generations. From Dr. Mignon Nicholson to the trailblazers of today, their resilience and advocacy have transformed our field. 💪🐾 Let’s celebrate their legacy and continue to empower women in the veterinary field and beyond! #IWD2025 #WomenInVetMed
Breaking Barriers, Healing with Purpose: Women in Veterinary Medicine From the pioneering spirit of Dr. Mignon Nicholson in 1900, the first woman in the U.S. to graduate from veterinary school, to the resilience of Dr. Elinor McGrath in 1910, Dr. Alfreda Johnson Webb in 1949, and Dr. Ethel Connelly in 1989 and so many others, women in veterinary medicine have been paving the way for equality, opportunity, and progress—not just in animal health, but in history. After women won the right to vote in 1919, it was not until 1939 that only 21 veterinarians in the U.S. were women. By 1960, women made up just 2% of the profession. Despite barriers, they fought for their place—pushing for Equal Pay in 1963 and Equal Education in 1971. Fast forward: 📌 1980: Women veterinarians grew to 20%. 📌 2009: Women officially outnumbered male veterinarians for the first time. 📌 Today: 64% of veterinarians are women! The legacy of these trailblazers and so many others are one of determination, advocacy, and empowerment—a legacy we continue to honor. Let’s celebrate the women who shaped our history, in veterinary medicine and beyond. 🩺🐾 📽️ Share a video of a women who inspired your career journey and tag blendVET https://lnkd.in/gUFZ9Bhs #WomenInVetMed #BreakingBarriers #WomensHistory @Advancingveterinarymedicine #veterinaryprofessionals #veterinarians #veterinarytechnicians #veterinarypracticemanagers #veterinarymedicine
