We had the best morning at Pittsburgh Milliones 6-12! Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh along with Pittsburgh Public Schools and the City of Pittsburgh officially launched CardFest, a ground-breaking new initiative that puts library cards – and the vast world of the public library – directly in the hands of all PPS scholars. Kids and teens in grades K-12 should watch their mailboxes this fall, as all PPS students (who don't already have one) will receive an activated CLP library card at their home address. Join the celebration and enjoy all of the fine-free resources the Library has to offer! Learn more: https://lnkd.in/em-RWiJJ Many thanks to Mayor Ed Gainey, City of Pittsburgh; Eric Graf, Pittsburgh Milliones Principal; Dr. Wayne Walters, Superintendent, Pittsburgh Public Schools; CLP Board members; and PPS staff, administrators and scholars for joining us at this special kickoff!

Big congratulations to CLP Teen Library Services Associate Kizuwanda Raines for being named a 2024 American Library Association (ALA) Emerging Leader! The ALA describes the Emerging Leaders initiative as "a leadership development program which enables newer library workers from across the country to participate in problem-solving work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. It puts participants on the fast track to ALA committee volunteerism as well as other professional library-related organizations." Read more about this exciting honor: https://lnkd.in/gwjem3vv

  • Libraries—regardless of kind or location—are mission-based organizations that exist to serve, and library work is collaborative rather than competitive, so it makes sense that while library staff support our communities, we do the same for each other. Join Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s President and Director, Andrew Medlar, for University of Pittsburgh's School of Computing and Information "Dean's Spotlight Series" on Wednesday, February 7 to explore what library collaboration looked like in the past (and why) and what can it be in the future (and how).
