CT's nonprofit art museum bus bridging inequities in education & arts access

About us

cARTie is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization bridging inequities in education and arts access across Connecticut, and bringing the museum field trip to schools and students directly. It reimagines the museum concept, deconstructs traditional models, and is committed to making sure Connecticut's diverse children feel represented and empowered. To this end, cARTie offers inclusive internship and exhibition opportunities to a diverse population of high school art students and provides critical museum-based learning opportunities that enrich and deepen early education and SEL, while meeting ELDS, NCCAS, and CCSS, to PreK-2 students who otherwise may not have access to robust arts programming.

Guess how many school visits we already have scheduled with the cARTie art museum bus, going into this 2024-2025 year? That’s right… 85 and counting! It is because of you and your support of the cARTie mission — bridging inequities in education and arts access across CT — that we are able to serve more than 7,000 PK-2 students this year who would not otherwise benefit from early art and museum enrichment. Let’s gooooo!! [Video Description: Numbers flash from 1 to 85 (& counting!) atop a black background to show that cARTie has more than 85 school visits already scheduled for the 2034-2025 year.] #museumfieldtrip #cARTieInspired #cARTieMatters #ctarts

Just like preschool… we’re your pre-museum 🏛️ We’re on a mission to make sure all young children in our homestate of Connecticut know they BELONG in museums. Aboard cARTie, they are WELCOME. They are INVITED. And they are SUPPORTED. We address inequities in access to art/museums for young children by bringing together promising practices in early childhood and museum education inside our art museum bus that travels directly to schools with limited resources. Already, we’ve introduced more than 7,000 PreK-2 students to the world of museums and helped prepare them for lifetimes ahead taking advantage of the powerful learning opportunities that museums offer. Learn more about our work and how you can get involved at www.cARTie.org. We’re scheduling school visits for the 2024-2025 school year, and would love to reserve time to get to your students’ schools. Our visits include 60-90 minute lessons per PK-2 class. Classes have time aboard our art museum bus — practicing close looking, critical thinking, and collaboration — while also outside engaged in paired art-making activities. Lessons are aligned with NCCAS, ELA CCSS, CTELDS, SJ Standards, SEL Standards, and more. We provide pre- and post- visit enrichment as well, all tailored to meet your needs. Email us at hello@cartie.org to start a conversation and learn more about our program offerings. [Image Description: A group of students stand in front of the cARTie art bus with an educator. Would you like to help co-curate cARTie? We are especially recruiting families with children between the ages 3-8+ to help consult on important design and curation decisions for our upcoming exhibition aboard the bus, entitled “Emotion in Art.” As co-curators, you and your family would prototype (try out!) a few installations/interactives, vote on background music, contribute to our emotion map, write and record visual descriptions of works of art on view, and more. ℹ️ Co-Curation Workshops August 29 // 30 (5:00-6:30PM) at the cARTie Office (Shelton, CT) Light dinner and refreshments provided If you are interested in co-curating with cARTie on August 29th OR 30th, please email clare@cartie.org, indicating your interest and preferred date. Please note: We want to hear from a range of cARTie community members — of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and interests. Please ensure that participating as co-curators is something your child(ren) wants to do and that you (or another adult) will be available to engage as well. The co-curation workshop will last approximately 90 minutes. We have learned a lot over the past three years… Here’s a snapshot: 1. It starts by connecting with school and community partners ✏️ 2. Continuously identify ways you can involve students ✨ 3. Think about how students might engage 🤔 4. Outfit your space to the best of your ability ✅ 5. Reserve funds to keep advancing accessibility 👍 6. Adapt along the way 🚌 [Image Description: Visual graphic explains lessons learned (above) over the past three years of starting/leading cARTie.] #cARTieInspired #cARTieMatters #lessonslearned #museumsmatter
