YouTuber "Lucid Stew" is back with another video about Cascadia High Speed Rail, this time with a thought experiment of building HSR exclusively by taking lanes away from I-5! The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) released a Preliminary Service Development Plan (SDP) for #AmtrakCascades, a step towards creating a blueprint for improving the route over the next twenty years. Check out these preliminary alternative service diagrams! While this is not true #HighSpeedRail, these are very important incremental improvements to speed & frequency that will make a big difference in the near term. https://lnkd.in/gugqcAhC

On Monday, March 11, U.S. Representatives Seth Moulton (D-MA) and Suzan DelBene (D-WA) introduced the American High-Speed Rail Act of 2024. This bill would provide $205 billion over five years for the planning and construction of a national high-speed rail network. We’ve always believed that High Speed Rail is the best way to deliver on WSDOT’s plans for “Ultra High Speed Ground Transportation” in Cascadia. We’re glad that everyone else is coming around to the realization that hyperloop was never more than an unserious, bad-faith proposal meant to undermine HSR. Good news, the Federal Railroad Administration announced grants for further study of #Cascadia #HighSpeedRail, and for improvements to the existing Amtrak Cascades service. Don't listen to the haters who say it's an either/or proposition. We need both short-term improvements to Amtrak Cascades, *AND* long-term planning for High Speed Rail. We need both.
