Restore, enhance, and protect the tree canopy of our nation's capital.
About us
Casey Trees' mission is to restore, enhance and protect the tree canopy of the Nation's Capital. Trees in urban areas provide a number of important environmental, economic and health benefits. They help to clean the air, curb stormwater runoff, raise property values, sequester carbon, reduce energy costs, and create jobs. Each year Casey Trees plants hundreds of trees, engages volunteers of all ages in tree planting and care, educates thousands of students about trees, monitors the District's tree canopy, and provides guidelines for better planting space design so trees will thrive in D.C.'s urban environment.

We have exciting news to share—Casey Trees has officially been awarded national accreditation by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission! This designation recognizes our steadfast commitment to responsible land conservation and governance, ensuring that the spaces we protect will thrive for generations to come. Below, you'll see one of our signature conservation easements, Hellbender Hill. Named after the brewery that once stood there, Hellbender Hill stands as a testament to the ecological significance of protecting our urban streams and forests. This is just one of the easements that reflects our deep-rooted commitment to preserving green space in Washington, DC. Earning accreditation is more than a badge of honor—it solidifies Casey Trees’ role as a trusted leader in land conservation. This recognition affirms our ability to permanently protect the lands under our care and strengthen advocacy for policies that expand urban tree canopy coverage. We are immensely grateful to our supporters, volunteers, and partners who make this work possible.
