Yesterday, Catalyst President & CEO Megan Thomas invited the Catalyst team into her beautiful home for our 2024 staff retreat. We spent the day exploring where Catalyst can grow—not just in the next year, but over the next decade. Our discussions weren't just about planning, they were about visioning and building our future. True to Catalyst spirit, the day was a blend of meaningful conversations and fun. Along with our 'great debate' and visioning exercises, we enjoyed surprise chair massages, yoga led by our in-house expert Caroline, and even a lively game of Pictionary! We’re excited to put these plans into action and continue working towards a stronger, more connected border region. ICYMI: Philanthropy California Responds to the #LineFire, #BridgeFire, and #AirportFire. ⚠ As wildfires spread across California, the Governor has declared a state of emergency and assigned personnel and resources to combat the fires and their impacts. In Southern California, the Line Fire alone has burned over 20,000 acres, forced thousands of evacuations, and caused significant environmental damage. Meanwhile, the Airport Fire in Riverside and Orange counties and the Bridge Fire in Riverside County continue to impact communities. Apart from the Philanthropy California Disaster Response page (https://lnkd.in/gYiW5mRQ), the Inland Empire Community Foundation has launched its Disaster Relief Fund for San Bernardino and Riverside Counties to support relief and recovery and to build lasting resilience. Contributions can be made to the fund at https://lnkd.in/gGDreYxB. With support from The California Wellness Foundation, the Inland SoCal United Way also activated a fund to help replace lost items, pay for hotel stays, make deposits on new housing, or other fire-related needs. Contributions can be made to the fund at https://lnkd.in/gxWjRZCp. #PhilanthropyCA #Wildfires #California #Philanthropy #disasterresponse #wheretodonate

Some key highlights from today's Building Authentic Relationships panel at the 2024 Catalyst Annual Conference: 💡A funder's work is 85 percent showing up! Get out of your comfort zone and build relationships as people, not organizations. 💡It’s not about nonprofits ticking the right boxes. Funders and partners are in the work together and equally bring a vision to fruition. 💡We shouldn’t be in a deficit mindset and nonprofits shouldn’t be in competition with each other. There’s an abundance of wealth in philanthropy and in our communities. Let's reframe to an abundance mindset focused on strategic partnerships. 💡Unrestricted, multiyear funding is the most effective way for nonprofits to create lasting change in the community.
