Some key highlights from today's Building Authentic Relationships panel at the 2024 Catalyst Annual Conference: 💡A funder's work is 85 percent showing up! Get out of your comfort zone and build relationships as people, not organizations. 💡It’s not about nonprofits ticking the right boxes. Funders and partners are in the work together and equally bring a vision to fruition. 💡We shouldn’t be in a deficit mindset and nonprofits shouldn’t be in competition with each other. There’s an abundance of wealth in philanthropy and in our communities. Let's reframe to an abundance mindset focused on strategic partnerships. 💡Unrestricted, multiyear funding is the most effective way for nonprofits to create lasting change in the community. Annual Conference Spotlight: Activating the Power of Creativity 🏵🏵🏵 Multidisciplinary artist Katie Ruiz is perhaps best known as the creator of the PomPom Project -- a series of joyful community art installations developed with hundreds of handmade yarn pompoms. Ruiz is also a current grantee of Far South/Border North, a regional collaborative that supports artists and cultural practitioners working in service of the health and well-being of communities in San Diego and Imperial counties. She has exhibited in museums and galleries across the nation and locally at The Oceanside Museum of Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and more. At this year's conference, we are thrilled that Ruiz will lead us in our own pompom-making activity -- underscoring how through the communal act of making simple crafts with humble materials, individuals can come together to work toward a common goal. What a great day working with youth-serving organizations and agencies to host The Center at Sierra Health Foundation for a day in El Centro! Along with Imperial Valley Wellness Foundation and others, Catalyst CEO Megan Thomas and Imperial Valley Program Manager Maria Peinado, MPA started the day at Imperial Valley College's tiny home student housing community, Lotus Living. We then had lunch and a roundtable discussion on housing, mentorship, employment, and substance use disorders. In the afternoon, we gathered at Rite Track to learn about the Elevate Youth grant opportunity for programs in which youth ages 12-26 years lead policy, system, or environmental change (due Sept 2024: https://lnkd.in/gtSupgHh) and a capacity building grant opportunity, coming online in 2025. #imperialvalley #imperialcounty
