Thank you to SVCN and Thrive Alliance for hosting the Mobilizing for Community-Driven Policies workshop! It was inspiring to hear from women nonprofit leaders and gain valuable insights💡✨ Key takeaways aways include: -organizing is giving back sovereignty to people/ communities -the distinct roles of advocacy vs. organizing -acknowledging our limits and not overpromising to community members -relationship building and sharing deep connections is a long-term commitment -trust is a currency -celebrate successes and focus on the commitment to the work and resilience Grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow in this impactful space 🌟 #nonprofitadvocacy #communityengagement #communityleadership

Catalyze SV was back in the news, twice last week, representing our members' views on how we want more housing, especially #affordablehousing. And how it's essential to have policy and funding to support those aims. https://lnkd.in/gn6skk78 https://lnkd.in/g4NF3PHg

Thank you to our coalition partners Maritza from Amigos de Guadalupe Center for Justice & Empowerment, Jordan from Greenbelt Alliance, & David from Save The Bay for being co-authors with our ED Alex Shoor on our San José Spotlight opinion piece encouraging you to participate in this week's community engagement about the 115 empty acres in San Jose known as Pleasant Hills. San Jose is in danger of blowing a golden opportunity with this land, so in our Op-Ed, we make the case for why this site has to: 1) include a lot of housing, especially affordable homes 2) be dense so San Jose has enough revenue to provide city services 3) create a vibrant neighborhood with plenty of community benefits like small businesses 4) offer different transportation options like walking, bicycling & public transit alongside driving to reduce traffic, pollution, and deaths from unsafe streets 5) be green to reduce the effects of global warming and provide space for folks to relax and recreate 6) engage the broader community in its design so it serves our whole region That's our take. What's yours? Share it on 8/8 and/or 8/12! https://lnkd.in/dC7iCwPU
