Giving teachers the professional development they need to equip classrooms of at-risk elementary students every year!
About us
Catch Up & Read equips at-risk elementary students to read on grade level by 3rd grade. Our organization trains educators to provide research-based, data-driven instruction throughout the school day and deliver teacher-directed after school tutoring for struggling students. 87% of Catch Up & Read students reach their grade level in reading with 81% making double-digit percentile gains in nationally normed scales. Our program consistently outperforms national trends for intervention for low performing students and students outpace DALLAS ISD and State average STAAR reading assessment results. We understand the future of our children and livelihood of North Texas is at risk because only 13% of our 9th graders are on track to graduate by 12th grade. Catch Up & Read can improve these numbers because there is a direct correlation between on-level reading at 3rd grade and high school graduation rates. Catch Up & Read's scalable model provides campus-wide instructional improvements that deliver high-quality education for all students and lasting improvements for our public schools.

Most people think of sight words to describe a word that appears frequently in a text. We generally think of these words as whole units that can’t be decoded and, therefore, must be memorized as whole units. However, that is not the case. David Kilpatrick suggests “A sight word is a word that is instantly and effortlessly recalled from memory, regardless of whether it is phonically regular or irregular.” In other words, any word that can be recognized automatically is a sight word.

What is Scarborough’s Reading Rope? Scarborough’s Reading Rope contains two main sections: Word Recognition and Language Comprehension. Each of these comprises several smaller strands. Woven together, these strands become the rope that represents complete skilled reading. All the components are interconnected and interdependent. If just one strand is weak, it affects the rope (and the reader) as a whole. In Short the student must have this formula: Decoding x Language Comprehension= Reading Comprehension
