When the federal government asks Catholic Charities of Oregon to resettle refugees, housing and food understandably top the list of services. But soon after, Catholic Charities helps refugees begin adapting to Oregon’s culture and language. https://hubs.la/Q02W0zcb0

A trusted ally of the most poor and marginalized and a leader in finding innovative solutions to poverty and injustice
About us
Since our founding in 1933 during the Great Depression that shook the globe, Catholic Charities of Oregon has been a trusted ally of the most poor and marginalized, and a leader in finding innovative solutions to poverty and injustice. We are proud to serve all God’s Children as the Official Domestic Relief Agency of the Catholic Church in Oregon. Our mission is to assure that essential, life-saving services and supports are accessible to the most vulnerable Oregonians. The services we provide across the state of Oregon include affordable and supportive housing, financial empowerment, mental health & counseling, pregnancy and parenting support, legal services, intensive case management and more. We are a member of Catholic Charities USA and of Caritas International, the global network of agencies that make up the charitable arm of the world-wide Catholic Church. Mission Statement Inspired by the transformative power of God’s love, Catholic Charities of Oregon — the social service arm of the Catholic Church in western Oregon — partners with the most vulnerable, regardless of faith, to achieve lasting solutions to poverty and injustice. Vision for Society Catholic Charities of Oregon envisions a society in which all people thrive economically, socially, and spiritually; cultivate diverse, respectful, and just communities; and recognize the inherent dignity and sanctity of human life. Vision for the Organization Catholic Charities of Oregon achieves lasting solutions to poverty and injustice by partnering with clients to meet their economic and educational goals and to support their physical and social well-being.

Dr. David Willis, a national expert on #ChildHealth and poverty, told us something chilling: Sometimes the birth of a precious newborn can be a catastrophic tipping point for families on the verge of losing their homes. The merciless driver of this tragic outcome is the deep chasm between soaring rent and stagnant income. And the birth of a new baby is often what pulls a family over the edge. We can’t let this happen. It violates every principle we hold dear. The time to act is now. The Catholic Charities Family Services Program, if recharged by you now, could provide essential support leading to family HOMEFULNESS. We fervently believe that a stable home is the bedrock of a child’s future, and we’re facing an unprecedented surge in demand. Give here: https://hubs.la/Q02Wd40V0

#ElectionDay is almost upon us, with many decisions that have moral importance. Catholic Charities of Oregon wants to offer voters an insightful non-partisan resource. “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” comes from the U.S. Catholic bishops but can be helpful for anyone who wants to take the bigger moral picture into account when voting: https://hubs.la/Q02W4fLx0
