We are pleased to share our latest policy report, "Feeding the Future: Leveraging Agriculture for Better Diets and Nutrition.” The report outlines key findings and actionable recommendations to enhance the role of agriculture development in achieving better nutrition, particularly for vulnerable populations. It emphasizes the importance of nutrition-sensitive approaches, the empowerment of women, and the need for multi-sectoral engagement to create sustainable food systems that promote health and well-being. Here’s more of what you’ll find in it ⬇️ The COVID-19 pandemic, economic disruptions, conflicts like the war in Ukraine, and climate change have exacerbated global hunger and malnutrition. Malnutrition, including both undernutrition and obesity, is now the leading cause of poor health worldwide, with poor diet contributing to 20% of deaths globally. 🌾 Agriculture is crucial for food and nutrition security, providing essential staples and diverse foods for a balanced diet. However, the relationship between agriculture and nutrition is complex. Increased agricultural production doesn’t automatically lead to better nutrition, especially if the foods produced aren’t nutritionally adequate or if access to nutritious foods is limited by poverty or inadequate infrastructure. 📈To address these challenges, nutrition-sensitive agriculture is essential. This approach focuses on food quality, diversity, and equity rather than merely increasing food availability. As U.S. Government-funded programs like Feed the Future continue to invest in agricultural development, we hope this report will serve as a valuable resource for policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders working to advance global food security and nutrition. 🔗 Read the full report: https://brnw.ch/21wMzlm. #UNGA79

We’re helping over 192,000 children in Rwanda with essential reading and writing skills while offering them a daily, balanced meal. “My son gets food every day and he is learning a lot. He comes home each day and talks about what he learned. At home, I keep the boys stimulated by reading them books. Before going to the [Early Childhood Development Center], he couldn’t respond. He cried all the time. Now he responds easily and is happy with the other children.” -Emelyne, mother of Bruno and Placide Thanks to USAID!
