On Wednesday afternoons at St. Mary of the Assumption School, the halls are filled with laughter and shouts of victory as the first-to-fifth-grade students engage in the Chess Wizards Club. Chess Wizards is an organization that runs after-school chess classes in schools across the U.S. St. Mary's has partnered with Chess Wizards for over a decade. Fourth-grader Lewi's favorite thing about chess is the queen, because she can move in any direction. His favorite chess strategy is to "rush" his opponents. Luisantonio, a CSF GO Scholar and 2024 graduate of East Boston Central Catholic School - ebccs, is an aspiring architect. In the lead-up to CSF’s 34th Annual Building Minds Scholarship Fund Gala, Honoree Rick Henken visited EBCCS, where Luisantonio had the opportunity to share his passion for architecture with him. Inspired by Luisantonio's career goals, Rick introduced him, his family, and the EBCCS principal to Gary Kane from The Architectural Team (TAT). This introduction created an opportunity for Luisantonio to participate in a summer internship at TAT before starting high school, giving him invaluable hands-on experience in the field.
