Retail & Mixed-Use Real Estate at CBRE

Great article from NRF below with data from Thanksgiving weekend. Our CBRE Retail Head of Research Brandon Isner had the following summary: Record Shoppers: The official Black Friday report from NRF found that a record 200.4 million consumers shopped over the five-day holiday weekend from Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday, surpassing their initial forecast of just 182 million shoppers. This was a handful more than the 196.7 million from last year, which was also a record. Multi-Channel: 121.4 million people visited brick and mortar stores, slightly down from the 122.7 million last year. 134.2 million people shopped online, up from 130.2 million last year. Black Friday: It continued the streak of being the most popular day for in-store shopping. 76.2 million shoppers opting to visit bricks-and-mortar locations, up from 72.9 million in 2022. However, the Saturday after Thanksgiving was a bit muted, with just 59 million consumers in stores, down from 63.4 million last year. 78% of Saturday shoppers shopped specifically for Small Business Saturday, an activity I am proud to have contributed to. Cyber Monday Decline: Black Friday was also the most popular day for online shopping, as it has been each year since 2019. 90.6 million consumers shopped online on Black Friday, up from 87.2 million in 2022. Cyber Monday saw a bit of a decline from last year, with just 73 million shopping in 2023, down from 77 million in 2022. There might be a bit of an alignment with to back-to-office trends here. #blackfriday #consumerspending #retailrealestate CBRE Retail
