Working Class hero Alf Tupper was an 18 year old who has worked as a welder, day laborer and plumber and lived off fish & chips, but whose passion was running. His efforts on the track however were usually hampered by a succession of "posh upper class twits "who resented having a common “guttersnipe” on their tracks, and ready to do anything, mostly cheating, to show him just how worthless he was.
