Providing comprehensive solutions to ending homelessness and achieving self-sufficiency.
About us
Central City Concern is ending homelessness by treating the whole person, as a person. Each year, more than 13,000 people turn to us for compassionate support to become self-sufficient and productive. The factors that contribute to homelessness are complex. A web of structural weaknesses and individual circumstances surrounds our clients, leaving them vulnerable at many points in their lives. We draw on more than 40 years of front-line experience to provide the help people need when they need it most. CCC’s approach addresses both the systemic drivers of homelessness and the individual factors that can reinforce it. We help our clients overcome barriers such as lack of affordable housing, health care and living-wage jobs, systemic racism, mental health challenges, chronic health conditions, substance use disorders, and time spent in the justice system. And everything we do rests on our foundational belief in the restorative power of human connection and dignity. Empowered by our staff, donors, partners and volunteers, we’re creating a proven solution for our community — one person at a time.

It was truly inspiring to hear the stories of triumph though compassionate community support at today’s “Compassion in Action” event from Central City Concern. We’re proud to be a long-standing partner with this organization that has made such a deeply positive impact in the health and well-being of our most vulnerable populations for the past 45 years. Thank you to Caresse Sakagawa, who serves on the Central City Concern board, for representing Providence Health Plan so well! Congratulations to Congressman Earl Blumenauer for being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award! #PHPHealthForAll #CompassionInAction #CentralCityConcern

Being in community with mission and values-aligned people and organizations makes me grateful and happy because it’s what makes #Portland beautiful. Today we celebrated the amazing work of Central City Concern and their 45 years in service to houseless citizens. It’s not easy work but it’s making a difference in building a more equitable and secure future for all Oregonians. Congratulations to Congressman Earl Blumenauer for being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for your steadfast commitment to advancing healthy lives in Oregon. I’m also proud of Caresse Sakagawa from Providence Health Plan for serving on the Central City Concern board. It was a wonderful luncheon and chance to reflect on what really matters. Bravo, Andy Mendenhall M.D., and your entire team! 👏 #healthforall #sdoh #Proud2BePHP

Many individuals arrive at CCC with few or no personal belongings. We are incredibly grateful to the wonderful team who assembled “Welcome Home” kits for every new resident moving into Meridian Gardens! These kits were made possible through funding from Multnomah County JOHS, and volunteers from Walsh Construction Co., Ankrom Moisan, and GLI Advisors graciously came together to assemble them. Thank you for helping us welcome our newest residents. Your efforts truly make a difference, showing our residents that they are cared for and supported. We appreciate YOU for making this impact! #endhomelessness #grandopening #portland #volunteer

We cannot give enough thanks to the Sunshine Division, who delivered over 10,000 lbs. of food and beverages to five CCC buildings last week! What makes this even more amazing is that CCC’s Community Volunteer Corps (CVC) program liaisons and clients help the Sunshine Division prepare an immense amount of food and beverage resources every week. To put this in perspective, in just two days last week, CVC helped accomplish the following: ~Assembled 400 emergency food boxes, each weighing 26 lbs., for a total of 10,400 lbs. of food. ~Packed 175 snack bags, each containing approximately 8-10 lbs. of food, totaling close to 1,750 lbs. of food. ~Sorted over 3,000 lbs. of food and organized it into 12 different categories for the pantry to stock its shelves. ~Loaded 400 emergency food boxes into DoorDash vehicles, which were delivered to 400 families in need of immediate food assistance. We’re incredibly proud of the work that our CVC team and the Sunshine Division accomplish together. Keep up the great work! #endhomelessness #community #recoveryjourney #volunteer #sunshinedivision

Today marks the beginning of Mission week at Providence Health Plan (PHP). Beginning with a simple meal of soup and bread in honor of our foundresses and Blessed Émilie Gamelin, caregivers joined one another today as one community in service to the Mission. Thank you to our community partners: American Heart Association of Oregon, Central City Concern, Oregon Food Bank, North by Northeast Community Health Center, Bloodworks Northwest, Blanchet House & Farm, Habitat for Humanity of Oregon (check out the pictures of PHP caregivers building a playhouse!) for sharing in todays event. Happy Mission Week, PHP! #Proud2bPHP #PeopleOfPHP
