I designed them, and they have been part of an extensive framework that I have expanded upon over a decade. 2025 marks the 10 year milestone of my work bridging the SDGs and Circular Economy - working locally and globally. 2025 will also mark the launch my book "Diamond Economics - Defragmenting the Circular Economy for a Just Transformation" Earlier this week I did a reverse image search on one of the earlier graphics I made, and how it has been used. I am blown away by the reach, and how it supported new narratives, and continues to do so. I was surprised to see it used in academic journals, research publications and policy recommendations. Summer Series: #MyLocalCircularLife #UrbanMining #LocalProduction #GiveHandmade In my downtime, I am a ‘maker’ and have been exploring various media for over 30 years. I do not wear a lot of jewellery, aside from my wedding band, I only wear my earrings, and if you look at any webinars, photos of me, or meet me on zoom, you will note, they are always the same ones 😉 The pieces I make are one-of-a-kind, and are gifts for the most part. I prefer to give #handmade or #homegrown. My grandfather was a blacksmith in Australia, and I think working with metal is in my blood - his old workshop is in the Bowraville Museum where he also made the gates. In the 1990s Mitsubishi developed precious metal clay (PMC) this material has transformed the jewelry-making industry, allowing artists to create intricate and unique designs. But the significance of PMC extends beyond its creative utility—it also plays a pivotal role in the broader narrative of precious metal reclamation and the recovery of regional resources. PMC was developed by the Mitsubishi Materials - Advanced Products Company. It consists of finely ground precious metals mixed with a non-toxic organic binder and water. When heated to high temperatures, the binder burns away, leaving behind a solid metal object that is 99.9% pure. One of the most compelling aspects of PMC is its potential for incorporating reclaimed metals. The metals used often come from recycled sources, including electronic waste and industrial byproducts. The concept of urban mining—extracting valuable metals from electronic waste, photography material, catalytic converters, and other non-traditional sources—has become increasingly relevant. Urban mining not only mitigates the environmental damage caused by traditional mining practices but also emphasises local economies and reduces carbon footprints associated with global shipping. In regions rich in technological waste, urban mining initiatives can transform local economies. This not only provides a sustainable source of precious metals but also creates local jobs and reduces waste. While the benefits of using and reclaiming metals locally are clear, there are challenges. The process of extracting metals from #ElectronicWaste efficiently and safely requires technological investment and regulatory oversight. However, these challenges present opportunities for innovation and collaboration to improve reclamation techniques and expand the market. Regulatory bodies can also play a role by supporting recycling initiatives and sustainable practices with incentives and policies. As the demand for sustainable products continues to grow, the role of reclamation of #Regional sources of precious metals will only become more vital. Summer Series: #MyLocalCircularLife Something that many of my LinkedIn connections are unaware of, is that my foray into the #CircularEconomy stems from 20+ years of being active in my small town of #Nesodden (pop. 20,000) working with others in our community to support the better use of our collective resources. I usually post about my local work on facebook, and reserve linkedIn for the global work, but recently as connections and partners from around the world are coming to the #OsloRegion and want to connect in person, I take them on a little tour around Nesodden on electric bikes to see how we and others are putting the CE into practice - so it is time to bridge it all ;) For almost two decades, my husband Dag Reynolds and I have been using our community as a testbed for #CircularInnovation and learning as much about what does NOT WORK, as we do from what DOES WORK!.. We have learned a lot about Food Systems, Libraries of Things, Maritime Cleanups, Procurement, Plastic Pollution, CSAs, Repair Cafes, Electric Bike lending programmes, Makerspaces, Circular Business Models, Products as a Service, Public/Private Partnerships, co-working spaces and more... So over the summer, I thought I would share some of this as a change of pace from the #Global work that I tend to post about on LinkedIn. To kick things off, I am sharing a link to our local NGOs website #Nesoddliv https://nesoddliv.no - which basically translates to "life on the point of the tip" as our community is an amazing peninsula smack dab in the middle of the #OsloFjord. We have a partnership with our municipality to support collaborative efforts to accelerate the Circular Economy transition via a #CircularLearningArena, I will share the concrete ways and case studies on how we do this in the coming weeks :) I would very much like to hear from others about what they do locally. Summer Series: #MyLocalCircularLife I love to fish - and I might have to stop. #BioRegion Living on the tip of a peninsula in the #Oslofjord, fishing has been an integral part of our children's upbringing. They learned early on how to gut a fish, and learned that the cheeks tend to the best part. Bringing home dinner that you have caught yourself is a great feeling. #localfood Sometimes when I need to clear my mind after too many hours on zoom, fishing offers a chance to get into an almost meditative state - I do not even care if I catch anything half the time - many an afternoon brainstorming session has been had on the rocks with my favourite sparing partner. Dag grew up right here where we live, he knows the fjord like the back of his hand - both above and below the water with literally 1000s of dives. The fjord is in trouble, the cod are in need of a protection and, as of 2019 you are no longer allowed to fish for them and rightfully so. But that is not the only issue, the invasive Pacific Oyster is here and it should not be - we pick and smoke those as well, but they are taking over the beaches and causing many other problems. The lobster are doing better, Dag was instrumental in helping establish lobster sanctuaries around the fjord, and for many years he would spend 10 days in October picking lobster pots each morning to measure and release them gathering data. But now, the fjord is in so much trouble, they are looking at a complete ban and it should happen for many reasons which I will pass the ball to someone more informed than myself to explain, but I have to say.. raising a family here in this incredible ecosystem would not have been the same without fishing. This ecosystem, the Oslofjord Region is the Bioregion to which we as a family belong. The work being done on #Bioregions and #Watersheds is critical, because each and every one of us plays a part in our bioregions and our impact matters. I am inspired by some of the work being done on Bioregional weaving, bioregional finance mechanisms and regenerative solutions. Time will tell if we can continue fishing in ours.

Summer Series: #MyLocalCircularLife In 1975 a visionary named Masanobu Fukuoka (1913-2008) wrote a book, The One Straw Revolution. He was a farmer and philosopher, who foresaw the problems we face today. It was clear to him that the industrialisation of agriculture and the seeming ‘progress’ of the last half century was misguided… and yet only now is the rest of the world truly understanding what was so evident to him. The answers are clear, we know what we need to do. We need to create a sustainable plan to provide our communities with ethically produced food from smallholder farms, championing seasonal diets from local resources and care for our soil. Now we just have to do it. ... That was the beginning of a blog post I wrote in 2015 on my personal blog where for many years I have been sharing my knowledge and ideas. I have never posted it on lInkedIn before, yet once again, my local life and the global work are bridging. My foray into the CE stems from food systems not only at: - the micro/nano levels with what we do as a family, but at - the meso level engaging with our local/regional farmers connecting the dots to support short supply chains between producers and consumers, integrating digital infrastructure for scaling best practice - the macro level working on national policies and - at the meta level globally as the first team to translate the open source platform @OpenFoodNetwork enabling others to implement it in non-anglo countries - last I looked it was in almost 20 languages! We established our local NGO to steward the work we did on establishing pilot projects and, as with everything we do, I did the research to see who was doing what internationally, networked with them and collaborate to create a locally appropriate model. I will share more about the work we did on that, but for now, a link to my blog where you can see how we try to source local ethically produced food including meat. Decades from now, we will potentially look back at meat consumption as a thing of the past, and plant based alternatives coudl be the norm; but what I know is that for now, for myself and for my family, we enjoy meat, so we do what we can to do it in a responsible way participating in the slaughtering, butchering and processing of meat. Discussions on #Data it's #Interoperability, the momentum in the America's from North to South and a special focus on #Canada and our #FoodAndFeedFirst hierarchy tool for #Bioeconomy #Biomaterials workshops. The Roundtable discussions are designed in a format that includes our 30/30 methodology: highlighting what we have done in the last 30 days and what we will do in the next 30 days, they include an introduction of new members and a roundtable of updates and discussions on a broad array of topics connecting the dots and identifying synergies for #collaboration through #SharedTools and resources. #Circularity4All

On January 1st of 2024, The Circular Economy Coalition released the #Circularity4All Manifesto comprised of 6 Pillars and 24 Principles to support a #ParadigmShift. Last week during #WCEF2024 in Brussels in #Partnership with the European Economic and Social Committee it was presented as part of our event 'Circularity4All - Bridging the Global Divide'. I am inspired by the conversations it has sparked, and look forward to taking the next steps with value-aligned individuals and organisations working together on this mission. 💡 Did you know that 75 % of global grape production is used for winemaking? 🍇 Not to eat them, not to make raisins, or juice. Wine 🍷 ! Now, did you also know that grapes are thus one of the main producers of GHG emissions among fruits and vegs? Approximately 8 kg of CO2 equivalents are emitted per kg of grape. Next, grape pomace, consisting of grape seeds, skins, and stalks, are considered as waste in wine production. They account for 20 - 30 % of the total mass of grape harvested. That is a lot of waste! Yet, the pomace doesn't need to end like that! At our Circular Economy Coalition #WCEF2024 accelerator session we brainstormed solutions to valorize pomace. Which solutions should be prioritized? What are the trade-offs? The results of this very insightful exercise will help Slovenian winery to take a step further toward circularity.
