Last week the Corporate Communications Team met in Boston for their annual in-person meeting. Together, they conducted a comprehensive review of their SMART goals for the year and discussed areas of opportunity for FY26. The team also met with Emily Sweeney, VP of Talent Strategy Partner and Strategic Initiatives, to explore flexible work styles and best practices for effectively collaborating with diverse leadership styles. In the spirit of giving back, the team dedicated some of their time together to volunteer with Story Pirates, a non-profit organization whose mission is to celebrate the words and ideas of young people and to create confident, literate students equipped with a variety of tools for written, verbal and artistic self-expression. The team had an incredible experience reading stories from kids around the world and writing heartfelt notes of encouragement in response. Last month, National Geographic hosted its annual Storytellers Summit in Washington D.C. Fifteen National Geographic Learning staff members joined 150 storytellers from around the globe who were there to share their works-in-progress and recently published stories for National Geographic. During the Summit, attendees had the unique opportunity to connect with our staff and explorers in small group settings allowing them to connect with these remarkable individuals featured in our learning materials and gain deeper insights into their experiences and perspectives. The main stage was abuzz with 18 captivating presentations that covered a wide range of topics. From the awe-inspiring 396-day journey to chart the entire length of the Amazon River to the art of using data to tell compelling human stories about fashion, art and the environment, each presentation left a lasting impression. Last week, our Senior Leadership Team (SLT) met in New York City to strategize for the upcoming year. Leaders from across the company shared ideas, insights and perspectives on their respective business units and together they discussed new launches, updates and releases. Guest speaker and expert on leadership, learning, eLearning, innovation, change and communication, Dr. Jeff Borden, also joined the meeting to discuss Cengage Group’s ‘superpowers’ through the lens of our customers. His insights added a fresh perspective, inspiring the leaders to think outside the box and explore new possibilities. After the meeting wrapped, the SLT participated in a unique team-building experience at My Cooking Party. Working together, they prepared an array of dishes, including appetizers, main courses, side dishes and desserts. It reinforced the importance of collaboration, creativity, and building strong relationships beyond the confines of the workplace.
