There are two event date offerings this year, as part of Nuclear Science Week. Join us either Thursday, Oct. 24, and Friday, Oct. 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the INL Meeting Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Families will be able to meet scientists and engineers, engage in hands-on activities and demonstrations, and meet other representatives from across the nuclear industry. TOMORROW! Who's joining us? On Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m. in the CAES auditorium (and via Teams), Dr. Hari Neupane, a subsurface scientist and experimentalist at Idaho National Laboratory will discuss his work on the EGS Collab Project during the CAES Codebreaker series. Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) offer tremendous potential to support energy security in the US and worldwide. Dr. Neupane will discuss the EGS Collab Project. This program brought together researchers and engineers from multiple national labs, universities and commercial entities. The group performed process and model validations to look at how generating appropriate hydraulic communication between injection and production wells could allow for more effective energy source mining. He will discuss the results and lessons learned during the six-year program to better our understanding of stimulation in crystalline rock for improving EGS. Congratulations to our Boise State University Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) affiliates for recent awards from the State of Idaho Workforce Development Council and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)! Two CAES affiliated Research Faculty will lead nearly $3 million in externally funded programs. Dr. Josh Eixenberger will lead an Idaho WFD Industry Sector grant that will support workforce development in Idaho for the advanced manufacturing sector. This emerging field uses information technology and other technological innovations to develop more efficient and sophisticated manufacturing processes. Co-principal investigators are Todd Otanicar, PhD, PE, Amy Moll, and Tony Valayil Varghese. Dr. Stephanie Lenhart with the CAES Energy Policy Institute is the principal investigator for a three-year project to create a hub for Idaho Clean and Resilient Energy Siting Teams. Co-principal investigators are Stephanie Witt with the School of Public Service and Matt Williamson with the School of Environment. Boise State will provide a neutral institutional home for a hub that is supported by core partners at the Tribal, state and county levels.
