"The only way we have a thriving economy is a low-carbon economy. There is no path to high-carbon prosperity," C2ES President Nathaniel Keohane told Climate Catalyst. Nat, who is a member of Climate Catalyst's Strategic Council, shared his perspective on global policy, carbon markets, and sustainable finance in a wide-ranging conversation. The industrial sector, responsible for 30% of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, presents significant challenges for #decarbonization efforts. This sector's unique energy requirements—clean, uninterrupted, and scalable—make it one of the hardest to decarbonize. A promising solution has emerged: advanced nuclear reactors. These innovative technologies offer the potential to meet industrial electricity and heating needs while significantly reducing emissions. Additionally, the widely supported and bipartisan ADVANCE Act was signed into law. The legislation aims to accelerate U.S. nuclear deployment and has created exciting new opportunities for companies to contribute to economy-wide #emissions reductions and improve environmental conditions in the communities in which they operate. C2ES President Nathaniel Keohane recently held a fireside chat with U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.)—an original sponsor of the ADVANCE Act—on her thoughts about the future of nuclear energy policy and deployment. Watch the recording for insights from Senator Capito, C2ES staff Douglas Vine and Tess Moran, as well as Benjamin Reinke and Kreshka Young (MBA). 📹 https://lnkd.in/ebZGWce9 #advancednuclear #webinar

Did you know that fully decarbonizing products has a surprisingly low impact on end consumer prices? At an event co-hosted with Dow and Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) focused on the importance of collaborating across value chains, I had the chance to talk through the math. For example, fully decarbonizing the production of a car results in added costs less than 3% of an average car price. So why is it so hard? Because that additional cost is not evenly distributed across a supply chain. Some suppliers bear an inordinate amount of the cost, making it impossible for them to decarbonize independently. That is why it is so critical to collaborate across value chains if we want to make an impact. I was privileged to join Jim Fitterling of Dow, Virginie Helias of Procter & Gamble and Nathaniel Keohane of Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) yesterday to encourage companies to do just this!
