  • October is Filipino American History Month #FAHM. The first Filipinos arrived in the United States at what is now Morro Bay, California on October 18, 1587. Filipino Americans played a pivotal role in the labor movement, particularly in the fight for agricultural workers' rights. Activists like Larry Itliong worked alongside Mexican-American leaders such as Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta to form the United Farm Workers (UFW) union in the 1960s. We take this time to honor the incredible contributions of Filipino Americans to the rich tapestry of American history and culture. Join us in celebrating their achievements, resilience, and diverse stories.

  • Story #18 Elena's Path to Safety and Healing Elena, an undocumented immigrant and monolingual Spanish speaker, endured domestic violence while financially dependent on her abusive partner. Contacting the Center for Domestic Peace’s hotline, she received support from a bilingual advocate who assessed her situation, revealing various abuses. With C4DP's help, Elena bravely reported the crimes, leading to her abuser's arrest and felony charges. Now, C4DP assists her with ongoing legal proceedings in preparing to testify and applying for therapy. They also facilitated her U Visa process and obtained a temporary restraining order for her safety. Despite the ongoing case, Elena lives securely with her two adult children, hopeful for a favorable outcome. Help Us Save Lives.
