New Report: The Center has released its June #Trade Report. Total trade through the state’s ports in the first half of the year rose 8.6% compared to the same period in 2023 in nominal terms and 8.5% in constant dollars. Again in constant dollars, trade activity in the first half was at its highest level since 2018, although close to matching the comparable level in 2022. https://lnkd.in/gwJrwZhv

The Center for Jobs December employment data report shows California’s unemployment rate up to 5.1%, the highest since January 2022, and the overall number of people working dropping for the 6th month in a row. It showed varied job growth in the Bay Area and Los Angeles region, but the overall recovery remains weak with unemployment rates in some counties in the double digits. Unfortunately, In November, California contained over half (15) of the MSAs among the 25 urban areas with the worst unemployment rates, including the worst region of the country in El Centro MSA (Imperial County).     Read more at www.centerforjobs.org/ca. #CAJobs

Michael Manchak highlighted our recent report in his column in the Pacific Coast Business Times (https://lnkd.in/gceTj_K6), saying: To retain its residents and businesses, the state must enhance its competitiveness and avoid driving taxpayers to relocate for survival and prosperity. The CA Center for Jobs and the Economy’s latest energy report is out and shows average commercial electricity, gasoline, and diesel prices persist as the highest among contiguous states. Hardworking Californians can’t afford these high prices and we must address cost and reliability alongside climate change efforts.   GAS PRICES: While remaining 56% higher than the average paid in the other states, gasoline prices again saw a drop, with the average California gasoline price down 30 cents from November, and the US average for the other states and DC down 18 cents.                  RESIDENTIAL: ELECTRICTY PRICES: For the 12 months ended October 2023, the average annual residential electricity bill in California was $1,681, or 69.1% higher ($687) than the comparable bill in 2010 (the year the AB 32 implementation began). In this same period, the average US (less CA) electricity bill for all the other states grew only 21.0% ($286).   COMMERCIAL ELECTRICTY PRICES: California's commercial prices were the highest among the contiguous states and DC.   DIESEL PRICES: In December, California had the highest diesel price among the contiguous states and DC. https://lnkd.in/eR-FBeVW
