Dedicated to increasing quality, equitable palliative care services for people facing serious illness.
About us
The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) is a national organization dedicated to increasing the availability of quality, equitable health care for people living with a serious illness. As the nation’s leading resource in its field, CAPC provides health care professionals and organizations with the training, tools, and technical assistance necessary to effectively meet this need. What is Palliative Care? Palliative care (pronounced pal-lee-uh-tiv) is specialized medical care for people living with serious illness. It is focused on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness—whatever the diagnosis. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family. Palliative care is provided by a team of doctors, nurses and other specialists who work together with a patient's other doctors to provide an extra layer of support. It is appropriate at any age and at any stage in a serious illness and can be provided along with curative treatment. The recent publication of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)'s Guideline: Palliative Care for Patients with Cancer acknowledges a truth. This truth reflects a coaching question I ask my team members , which is: "What more information do you need to make a decision?" For palliative care, I'm not sure we need more information. We have over 20 clinical trials or large studies that establish integration into usual oncology care as standard of care. So to move from "nice to have" to "must have", we have partnered with Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) in the Enhancing Palliative Care in Oncology program to support oncology practices. Benefits include: training and resources needed to support palliative care program development, one year of CAPC membership including CE courses, exclusive offerings facilitated by ACS and CAPC, and more. All for free! Apply today! https://lnkd.in/ebAvKkUj

Thank you CAPC for offering new courses for clinicians to learn about how to support and care for people with Dementia and their caregivers.
CAPC’s Best Practices in Dementia Care and Caregiver Support courses >> https://ow.ly/em5M50SEnIa Individuals living with #dementia have complex care needs and long periods of reliance on the support of their loved ones and other caregivers. While there are no evidence-based treatments that cure or reverse dementia, clinicians can and should take action to improve the quality of life for these vulnerable patients and their caregivers. These new CE courses, one of which is open-to-all, offer clinicians from various specialties and disciplines training on how to: 🔹 Effectively communicate with patients and their loved ones about a dementia diagnosis 🔹 Help families understand what to expect and how to prepare for the future 🔹 Interpret and address behavioral symptoms 🔹 Manage common medical issues 🔹 Navigate difficult care decisions 🔹 Support the caregivers of people living with dementia CAPC members, if you have taken our previous Dementia courses, you can take these courses and earn new CE/CME credits. Free ABIM Maintenance of Certification (MOC) credits are also available for physicians. hpm #hapc #healthcare #dementia

💻 Webinar 'How to Support and Empower Caregivers of People Living with Dementia' on Thursday, November 14 🔗 https://ow.ly/Sa6L50TBzXb Caregivers are the backbone of the US health care system, particularly for people living with serious illness such as Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias. While palliative care goes a long way in supporting these patients, there continue to be more opportunities to optimize how we support caregivers. These range from better integrating caregivers into goals of care conversations and facilitating practical training to prepare for the physical and mental aspects of caregiving in the home, to connecting them with meaningful resources in their communities. In this webinar, CAPC’s Andy Esch, MD, MBA, is joined by leaders from the Alzheimer’s Association and Hospice of the Valley’s Dementia Care and Education Campus to discuss this and more. Together they will share strategies for how to better support caregivers, including addressing some of the structural limitations that can hinder this work. Participants will leave with tools to implement targeted changes that can greatly improve the outcomes of caregivers and patients alike.
