Thank you Iris Edelen, SPHR, CAPM for all of your insights! Another successful #LessonsinLeadership with Julie Klima, MPA!
Enabling Nonprofits to Do Their Best Work | Championing Women Leaders at All Levels | Centurions Class of 2025
Yesterday, I hosted another edition of Lessons in Leadership with Central Exchange. My guest for the evening was my dear friend Iris Edelen, SPHR, CAPM. She dropped so many wisdom bombs, I couldn't possibly capture them all, but a few things stood out for me as good reminders: ⭐ Be kind. Always assume positive intent and prioritize "seek to understand" conversations. ⭐ At work, you're part of a team, not a family. That means that you don't have to excuse the behavior of the "weird uncle." ⭐ Transparency in leadership requires a ton of intentionality to balance what you share with how it will affect the team's energy. ⭐ It's not just okay but critical to have boundaries and to know what fills your cup - and to enforce those boundaries and to regularly take actions to restore your energy. ⭐ 3 books she goes back to - and recommends - regularly are: Speed of Trust, Choosing Civility, and Emotional Intelligence 2.0.
