Many of our fundholders and community members have reached out asking how they can support the 48 veterans displaced by the fire at HVAF's main facility. We recommend donating directly to HVAF's Fire Assistance Fund, or purchasing the items identified on the Amazon wish list in their post. Together, we can make a meaningful impact—whether through small contributions or larger gifts—to support our veterans in this crucial time of need.
*** UPDATE *** At this time, we can confirm all veterans have been accounted for. HVAF is open and operational. The Donald W. Moreau Sr. Veterans Community Center is open for our regular pantry hours: Tuesday/Thursday 11:30 P.M. - 2:30 P.M. --- On October 26, at around 9:30 P.M., there was a significant fire at HVAF of Indiana’s Manchester Apartments — located at 960 Pennsylvania Street in downtown Indianapolis. This facility serves as a transitional housing property for 48 homeless veterans. The damage was catastrophic, and we are unsure of the cause at this time. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) are currently investigating the fire, please direct all fire-related questions to them. We are thankful for IFD promptly arriving on the scene to work to put out the fire, and for IndyGo providing busses for providing transportation for displaced veterans. Veterans have been relocated to local hotel rooms and we are coordinating with partners to provide appropriate support. If you would like to support HVAF during this time, please donate here: https://lnkd.in/gWwyg2sX You can also purchase items on our Amazon Wish List that we will provide to the displaced veterans, which can be accessed here: https://lnkd.in/gHcxaXAe For veterans struggling to return to self-sufficiency, the loss last night is unimaginable. We appreciate the support of our community as we work to rebuild and recover.
