Every graduation is a reminder of how critically important our work is. Our families pour generations of dreams and hope into their children. We are so grateful that they trusted us to educate and care of their greatest gift. We're so proud of our scholars who are one step closer to being high school and college graduates. “To be here in front of you all, is truly a dream come true. My origin story is like that of many Mexican immigrants. Being here on this podium meant my parents made so many sacrifices. My parents were teenagers when they arrived here and had a journey that involved walking in the heat…with no food and water just to get here to the United States. It is a literal journey that allowed me to be with all of you at CQA.” -Emily, 8th Grade Valedictorian #schoolofimmigrants #diversityineducation #nyccharterschools

About us
Central Queens Academy Charter School is a high-performing, tuition-free, public school serving New York City Community School District 24. CQA I middle school opened in 2012 and CQA I elementary school opened in 2021. In 2023 CQA was granted a second charter to open an additional K-8 school. CQA II will open in August 2024 beginning with K and 1. We will grow CQA II by one grade each year until it reaches full-scale. CQA is looking for dozens of new educators to join our team as we expand over the next few years. CQA has a specific interest in improving academic and life outcomes for English Language Learners and recent immigrant populations. Our scholars primarily live in the Corona, Elmhurst and Woodside neighborhoods - some of the most overcrowded and diverse in New York City. The scholars and families we serve represent nearly 30 different nations from around the world. About 90% of our scholars are from low-income households and 80% would be the first in their family to graduate from college. CQA staff have an opportunity to be a part of developing compassionate global stewards and life-long readers and learners in a progressive environment in the context of supportive, grateful and appreciative families who are excited to collaborate; colleagues who are devoted to their practice, their scholars, and the school mission; and a leadership team dedicated to supporting professional growth by providing feedback and support. The hard work of our students and faculty have produced proven success. CQA has ranked highest performing charter middle school in Queens since 2014. We are one of the highest performing middle schools in all of New York State. Read more about our results on our website here: www.centralqueensacademy.org/results

We continue to expand and enrich our arts programming at CQA, including our jazz band. Learning to play a musical instrument has been proven to increase academic scores, graduation rates, college entrance exam scores and to support social and emotional skills. The arts are critical to our scholars' success. This spring our advanced and beginner jazz bands performed at our school for their community and at two different jazz clubs in Brooklyn for the public. We're so proud of their progress and dedication. #jazz #music #musicclass #education #middleschool #nyccharterschools #wearehiring

We've had so much fun celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! All month long our scholars have learned about members of the AANHPI community who have made historical contributions to our communities, our nation, and our world. CQA was founded by a group of first- and second-generation Asian American New Yorkers who saw a need for our school in the community. They aimed to create a school that centers and celebrates the experiences of our diverse community and provides our unique group of scholars with the support they need to excel. As we work to open CQA II this August to serve even more scholars and families, we are strengthened and guided by our founders' vision and commitment to the success of our school community. #wearehiring #AANHPIMonth #diversityineducation #nyccharterschools #AAPIMonth

The best part about being at a school with such a culturally diverse student body is we can always find a shared community within our school and we are always learning from one another. As many in our community celebrate the end of Ramadan, we thank our scholars for sharing why this time is so special to them and their families. Eid Mubarak! #eidmubarak #ramadan2024 #diversityineducation

We love hearing our alumni stories! We are so proud of their hard work, determination and drive for success. It's even more rewarding to hear directly from them, the long-term impact our teachers made on them. Two of our alumni who are preparing to graduate college, Dennis and Khadijah, recently shared some updates with us. We are so thankful for our educators who are changing lives and making a positive, generational impact in our community. CQA is hiring for the 2024-2025 school year. Recently, some of our teachers spent their Saturday day off at a free book distribution event through the nonprofit, Project Cicero Book Drive. Together our teachers collected hundreds of free books for our scholars to read, share and enjoy. This isn't their first book drive and we suspect it wont be their last! Their dedication to our scholars inside of the classroom and out is unwavering and we are so grateful. Thank you! #literacyforall #reading #teachersoflinkedin #elementaryschool #middleschool #teacherlife #wearehiring #teacherjobs
