Louisiana-based CSWR employees and our EH&S team recently completed a community service project in St. Tammany Parish and New Orleans' Northshore, areas rich in ecological significance. Carefully organized by CSWR EH&S Field Analyst Caleb Edwards, volunteers engaged families in discussions about the water cycle, the importance of preventing water pollution, and the water and wastewater industry, aiming to inspire future generations to protect our water resources. The team also marked storm drains in Eden Isles, reminding residents that only rain should flow into these drains. This project underscores CSWR's commitment to safeguarding waterways and making a lasting positive impact on both the environment and local communities.

🎉We are thrilled to announce the completion of a major project at one of our Magnolia Water water systems in St. Tammany Parish!🎉 Magnolia Water has successfully installed a state-of-the-art, activated carbon filtration system at the Eden Isles water treatment facility to remove naturally occurring tannins from the water. This major improvement has alleviated discoloration, reduces the amount of chemicals needed for treatment, and ultimately lowers disinfection byproducts. Meet Kathryn Thomas, a junior at the University of Dayton majoring in Civil Engineering. Kathryn's studies have already provided her a head start with a versatile skill set including critical thinking, project management, problem solving, teamwork, and a sense of ethical responsibility. She is always striving for a deeper understanding of environmental dynamics and adaptability in meeting - and overcoming - challenges. Since joining CSWR, Kathryn has played a crucial role in enhancing CSWR employee website usability of High Tide Technologies, the state-of-the-art remote monitoring SCADA system used by CSWR and its affiliates to remotely monitor data across its footprint, allowing for rapid response time and proactive intervention. Kathryn has reviewed over 1500 Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), identifying any potential gaps in infrastructure at water facilities in order to optimize data collection and improve equipment performance metrics for pumps, blowers, and wet wells, to name some examples. "My internship at CSWR has been an amazing opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to rea world projects," says Kathryn. "I've gained hands-on experience in the field as well as developed technical and interpersonal skills that will shape my future career."
