Bringing a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record in research, consulting, and education, Dickson’s teamwork, passion, and vision are integral to CESMECC’s mission of promoting sustainable mining and environmental stewardship. Under Dickson's leadership, the Projects & Programs Department is the powerhouse driving CESMECC's mission and goals. This dynamic team is responsible for planning and executing on-the-ground projects that align directly with our organizational vision. 💥Today, we are proud to introduce Geoffrey Basil Mwango, the Head of Capacity Building Department at the Centre for Sustainable Mining, Environment and Climate Change (CESMECC).💥 Geoffrey is an MSc Environmental Engineering student sponsored by Kenyan German Centre for Mining, Environmental Engineering and Resource Management (CEMEREM). His research focuses on integrated assessment modelling specifically; Climate, Land, Energy, and Water Systems (CLEWs). Geoffrey has successfully built a CLEWs-Kenya Model with the support of Delta-E+ Research Lab, funded by the Government of Canada. The model provides critical policy insights on renewable energy transition, GHG emissions, agricultural intensification, and climate change. In addition to his work on the CLEWs-Kenya Model, Geoffrey has participated in the Energy Modelling Platform for Africa (EMP-A 2023), sponsored by Climate Compatible Growth #CCG#CCG. There, he honed his skills in capacity expansion modelling (OSeMOSYS) and further explored CLEWs. Geoffrey is passionate about environmental sustainability and is committed to fostering collaboration and skill enhancement among stakeholders through the Capacity Building Department. His expertise allows him to leverage various technical platforms to inform sustainability strategies and analyse sustainable development initiatives, creating a comprehensive understanding of necessary actions and potential outcomes. 🎉 Get to meet Paul Njinu, the head of the Community Engagement and Outreach department at the Centre for Sustainable Mining, Environment and Climate Change (CESMECC).🎉 Paul is a mining and mineral processing Engineer with a depth of knowledge in circular economy, clews modelling, bringing such a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the CESMECC team. During his studies at Taita Taveta University, Paul served as the president of Enactus Taita Taveta University and the deputy manager of the Nanotechnology and Materials Engineering Laboratory (NAME LAB). Under his leadership, Enactus Taita Taveta University emerged best in the Enactus Kenya BIC Education Challenge with an innovative recycling project that transformed plastics into multipurpose Ottoman poufs, securing a notable grant. As the deputy manager of NAME LAB, Paul played a pivotal role in fostering a culture of innovation and excellence, contributing to several groundbreaking projects now awaiting patents. Additionally, Paul has successfully completed courses in CLEWs Modeling and Modeling, Policy, and Political Economy from the Open University, further enhancing his expertise. Ronnice Chepkoech is a dedicated Master’s student in Environmental Engineering with a unique academic foundation in Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering. This interdisciplinary background provides Ronnice with a comprehensive understanding of both resource extraction and environmental sustainability, positioning her at the forefront of addressing complex environmental challenges. Chepkoech Ronnice is currently engaged in a six-month research project funded by Global Affairs Canada | Affaires mondiales Canada, aiming to develop integrated strategies for sustainable resource management and climate resilience. Her research involves constructing the Climate, Land Use, Energy, and Water Systems (CLEWs) model for Kenya and creating climate scenarios designed to inform policymakers on sustainable development. As the Head of Research and Innovation at the Centre for Sustainable Mining, Environment and Climate Change, Ronnice leads initiatives to promote sustainable mining practices and mitigate the environmental impacts of mining activities. Her work not only advances scientific understanding but also generates practical solutions that can be implemented at local, national, and global levels.
