Today is National Wildlife Day. North Carolina is perhaps the most ecologically unique state in the southeast, mainly due to its borders’ three distinct biomes: Coastal, Piedmont and Appalachian Mountains. Today is Skyscraper Day. One World Trade Center in New York City is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. One World Trade Center contains more than 40,000 metric tons of structural steel. Luke Parks from CESI is doing a reinforcement inspection for a cast-in-place wall that will retain soil from this beach at Beatty’s Ford Park. Our CESI construction materials testing team has been busy! Alan Stevens was at two sites recently. At the Iredell Solid Waste Facility, there was a late night concrete pour for baler pad #2. The asphalt paving was done at Rowan Cabarrus Community College in Salisbury. It was a great experience to visit the construction site of the new NC Emergency Training Center in Stanly County! Dylan Williams from the Construction Materials Testing and Geotechnical CESI team is on site almost daily inspecting various parts of this gigantic site. Upon completion, this facility will offer training in critical areas such as Swift Water Rescue, Aircraft Firefighting, Urban Search & Rescue, Hazmat, and Fire Investigation Technician courses. It’s a feather in North Carolina’s hat to have an incredible center like this for first responders. #cesi #cmt #inspection #construction #rescue #firefighting #hazmat #firstresponders

Walk2WIN on Saturday, November 2nd is a 2-mile walk around downtown Kannapolis and inside the ballpark that benefits Walk Cabarrus, a community-wide walking campaign with the goal of reaching 1 Billion steps as a community. Packet pickup (at the ballpark) is scheduled for 8:30 am on the day of the walk. The entry fee is $25 for walkers 13 years old and up. Kids 12 and under are free (discount applied at checkout). All participants will receive a Walk2WIN T-shirt and will be eligible for gift certificates to local businesses via a raffle drawing. There is a Costume Contest this year.
