About us
Since 2001, The McHenry County Community Foundation, our county’s community foundation, has connected the generosity of donors with community needs by making grants to organizations working to create a better quality of life throughout McHenry County. Philanthropic efforts for the county are coordinated and led by the team at McHenry County Community Foundation. As nonprofit organizations, local governments, and businesses strive to tackle issues of concern, the Foundation provides civic leadership through partnerships and collaborations. Working together, the Foundation, its donors and its community partners leverage collective knowledge, creativity and resources for a greater impact than any of us can make alone. Philanthropy is evident in every community of McHenry County. The Community Foundation makes the philanthropic process simple by working with individuals and groups to create various giving funds.

✨The Community Foundation for McHenry County is proud to announce the establishment of a new Agency Fund by The Aarrk Gardens, located in Hebron, IL. The Aarrk Gardens is a unique program dedicated to assisting homeless individuals who have previously struggled with addiction. Participants work at The Aarrk Gardens for an hourly wage, developing skills in gardening, agriculture, groundskeeping, mechanical work, and more. Some participants also reside on the property for a small fee. The Aarrk Gardens is a former Mission Grant recipient. ✨ “Our helpers have a desire to recover and a strong work ethic,” explained Janet Dolan, Founder and Executive Director of The Aarrk Gardens. “They learn that anybody can be family.” Agency Funds are a unique way for The Community Foundation for McHenry County to partner with nonprofits. An Agency Fund is established by a nonprofit to support its own operations and programs. Agency Funds provide a nonprofit organization with a sustainable and professionally managed source of income, ensuring the continuation of its mission. The Community Foundation is honored to partner with The Aarrk Gardens to support their mission of helping the homeless re-enter society through agriculture. 😀
