Find out how and why researcher Thomas Werner is cataloging the fruit flies of North America and where he recently found a species that was believed to be extinct.
Fruit flies are receding from our northwoods produce baskets, but they’re a year-round staple in the lab, prized as genomic models that offer a mirror into the causes of human conditions. 🪰 Find out how and why researcher Thomas Werner is cataloging the fruit flies of North America and where he recently found a species that was believed to be extinct. Congratulations to Professor Tara L. Bal, PhD, CF, who has been nominated to serve a three-year term as vice president on the Society of American Foresters (SAF) Board of Directors. Bal is an SAF-certified forester who has been a member of the organization since 2003 and most recently served as the board of directors District V representative. “It’s a great honor to be nominated,” said Bal. “SAF serves as an opportunity, for myself and others, to forge new connections, engage on diverse topics, and give back to the forests that provide for us, by offering resources for the landowners and managers that take care of them." Elections will be held in September with the new board term starting on January 1, 2025. Learn more about her nomination in the CFRES blog. https://lnkd.in/eXYSdRXh
