The East Bay K-16 Pathways Convening brought together educational leaders from across the sub-region to enhance collaboration and advance equity-centered occupational pathways. Participants engaged in discussions on intersegmental collaboration and equity strategies, including dual and cross-enrollment and work-based learning activities, aimed at streamlining occupational pathways. The event provided educators from K-12, community colleges, and CSU/UC systems with the opportunity to ideate and plan together. Their collective efforts focused on driving transformational changes that benefit underserved/underrepresented students throughout the East Bay. Moving the Bay Area K-16 Collaborative forward!

CLPCCD participated in an event with Tri-Valley business leaders to discuss the concept of work-based learning and how local businesses and organizations can help train the next generation of workers. "Alcian Lindo, MFA, program manager for the Tri-Valley Career Center, a service of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, kicked off the discussion. She said, to her, work-based learning means everything. 'It means providing the community with the means to achieve, to have economic freedom and security,' said Lindo, adding that the idea translates into providing job assistance and training to anyone in the community. 'It means growth; it means a better community for everyone.' When the Tri-Valley Career Center was first founded in 2016, it operated under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The WIOA program was originally awarded to help people aged 18 and over by supplementing wages for adults to have experiential internships of short-term placements with employers. But Lindo’s previous work in the youth space led her to push the Tri-Valley Career Center to open up to youth as well as their adult students."
