About us
Charlap Hyman & Herrero is a Los Angeles / New York-based architecture and design firm that takes a fully integrated approach to conceptualizing and executing spaces in their totality. Principals Adam Charlap Hyman and Andre Herrero, whose backgrounds are in interior design and architecture, lead a practice that considers all aspects of the built environment, from site plan to furniture. Working in various typologies – including buildings, set designs, stores and houses – CHH endeavors to consider divergent art forms and the experiences of multiple senses. They aim to create spaces that become worlds unto themselves, with gesamtkunstwerk at the core of the firm’s objective.

For a guest house in a garden in Beachwood Canyon, Los Angeles, CHH devised a brick folly. Rendering a complex geometry in a single material, the functional and ornamental elements of the design blend against the total mass. A raised spa overflows into the plunge pool below, and integrated planters hold various species of cacti. Concealed windows and skylights allow light to filter into the space while maintaining guests’ privacy, with none of the structure’s apertures being visible from the surrounding vantage points of the garden.

Sited on Long Island’s North Fork, this contemporary home contrasts the rolling hills and lush landscape with striking architectural details. Its sleek metallic elements, engawa porches, and interconnected rectangular volumes with zinc roofing respect local aesthetics with a modern edge. Notable for its intricate 10,000-pound stainless-steel lattice, the home acts as a testament to the art of blending form and function. Beyond excited & humbled to see our SoHo loft for very special clients make the cover of AD Italia's March 2024 issue. Created in collaboration with Food Architects & Cass Nakashima, shot by Angela Hau, styled by Colin King, with a beautiful story to wrap it all together by Hannah Martin at AD. Congratulations to the CHH Team!

The bedroom in our SoHo project with Food Architects & Cass Nakashima, featured in this month's issue of Architectural Digest. Thank you to Hannah Martin and the rest of the AD team including Amy Astley, Alison Levasseur, and Michael Shome for including us in the pages of your amazing magazine! A cork bed by Setzler with portable reading lamps by Luigi Caccia Dominioni fades into a large verdure tapestry. Eli Ping's “Mote” from Ramiken Crucicble hangs on the adjacent well and a very interesting Italian console from the 1930’s sits opposite. In the second image, you can see, behind a glass partition, diffused by steel blinds and Piranesi etchings, a leather conversation pit and screening zone. So much gratitude for Angela Hau & Colin King for creating the most beautiful document of this special project ❤️ and bravo to the CHH team who worked so hard on it!

A loft in SoHo - our collaboration with Food Architects & Cass Nakashima for some amazing clients, featured in the February issue of Architectural Digest. ❤️ Thank you Angela Hau & Colin King for the most beautiful images & Hannah Martin for such a perfectly done story - we are so grateful! Thank you to the truly wonderful team at AD, Amy Astley, Alison Levasseur, and Michael Shome. In the first picture, a terrazzo dining table by Ficus Interfaith sits under a rare lamp by Gae Aulenti, in front of a glass wall hung with steel Venetian blinds and Piranesi etchings. A Russian officer’s brass caddy from Louis Bofferding is off to the side. In the second picture, the sunken living space is defined by a custom sofa with integrated lighting, a large floor pillow-ottoman made of a mid-century French tapestry, and chrome stools by Shun Kinoshita. Works by Andra Ursuta & Phillip Rich from Ramiken hang on the ribbed walls beyond, concealing a bar and record collection. Bravo to the brilliant team at Food Architects and the designers at CHH that brought this dream to life - Grace Myers, Abby Lee, Chelsey Mitchell, and Medha Uppal.❤️
