About us

The Charter Township of Northville is a vibrant, safe and attractive community. The perfect place to live, work and play! Northville Township was established in 1898 and became a Charter Township in 1985. What was once a quaint farming region is today a thriving residential and business community. Throughout our community, signs of our rural heritage still exist, including rambling farm houses on unpaved roads, traditional neighborhoods and an open landscape. Today, Northville Township's master plan allows for planned growth that preserves wooded areas and open space, and protects our waterways.

  • Northville Township congratulates Steve Smeal on 25 years of service to our community. 🎉 Steve was hired into the Water and Sewer Department in 1999 after a career in fire equipment repair. He is now one of our Crew Leaders in the Public Works Department (DPW). Steve has been integral to the DPW with his knowledge of the water and sewer main system and awareness of safety issues by being on the Township’s Safety team for many years. Steve loves working with his team members to serve our residents. Often times, our DPW workers are responding to emergency calls at all hours of the day. The long hours and team-centered culture during emergency repairs to our water or sewer system has created bonds between Steve and his co-workers that he treasures. At times, the work can be stressful, but he always manages a laugh or two with his team! Outside of work, Steve enjoys owning and working on classic cars. He and his wife, Sue, enjoy camping during the summer months in their camper with their two dogs. During the fall you can catch Steve watching football. Go Huskies! As his son is the Director of Athletic Bands for the University of Washington. His advice to newcomers? Northville Township is a place full of opportunity. You can expect to learn a lot and continue to grow throughout your career. Congratulations, Steve, on 25 incredible years and thank you for your unwavering dedication and service to our community! We honor your service and commitment to the Northville Township community!
