Last week, KKR's Pete Stavros launched a new coalition to make employee stock ownership programs (ESOPs)—in which workers own part of the company through stock shares that vest over time—more common. In Charter Pro, we did a deep dive into Verizon's Stock Together" program to see how the telecommunications giant has put employee ownership into practice. Read about how the company's $1.9 billion program has played out for performance, employee engagement, and company culture:

The 2024 Charter Workplace Summit is next week! Ahead of the event, Charter editor-in-chief Kevin Delaney wrote about some of the themes we're most excited to discuss as we write "the new leadership playbook" during CWS. They include: 👉 Businesses are swinging away from the investments in people-centered leadership that were a hallmark of the pandemic years. 👉 Hybrid work will maintain its share of workplaces despite new in-office mandates from Amazon and others 👉 In terms of the workplace, genAI is flashy in the short term, boring in the medium term, essential in the long term. 👉 Companies should train workers to use genAI, not just have them figure it out on their own. 👉 Wellness should be treated as a business imperative, rather than just a perk. To read more about these provocations—and to sign up for CWS, read Kevin's full essay:

Lately, my friend group has been obsessed with the folk wisdom that making three successful matches earns you a spot in heaven. But according to Alison Fragale, UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School professor and author of Likeable Badass, making introductions in the workplace is also one of the best ways to get ahead in your career. It's all about status, she told me a couple weeks ago, ahead of the release of Likeable Badass. " When I introduce you to somebody that you don’t know, I have something of value that you would not have gotten if not for me," she explains. "And by making the introduction, I’m using my network for your benefit." Read more from my convo with Alison about how status works, why it matters, and how to cultivate it to get ahead: https://lnkd.in/g2j2c3ec

Another Labor Day has gone by, with another year full of RTO debates. We reached out to five experts to find out what leaders and employees should be focusing on this year in the world of flexible work. Read Sunday's Charter Briefing newsletter to find out what Nick Bloom (Stanford), Nick Romito (VTS), Molly Sands, PhD (Atlassian), Jonathan Weindel (Envoy), and Daisy Auger-Domínguez (she/her/ella) (author of the forthcoming book, Burnt Out to Lit Up) told us.
