Healing Through Horses
About us
Located in the heart of Atlanta, Chastain Horse Park (CHP) is the only PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) Intl. Premiere Accredited Center in the metro area. This designation confirms that our center operates according to the highest industry standards and practices, foremost safety, professionalism and credibility. We currently have six PATH Intl. certified instructors, as well as occupational therapists, physical therapists and speech-language pathologists for hippotherapy. We firmly believe that working with horses can have a major physical, cognitive and emotional impact on people with a wide variety of issues and disabilities. And given the very strong correlation between disability, poverty and low education, CHP is able to subsidize 50% of every Therapeutic Program session and provide full and partial scholarships to those in most need. To achieve this, we rely on the generous donations from our community as well as the earned income rental fees from our clubhouse banquet facilities. In addition, we rely on the support of our robust volunteer program, including at least 1,000 volunteer slots that we fill each month. Depending on the needs of the rider, it can take up to three volunteers to support each therapeutic lesson. In 2017 alone, volunteers donated more than 14,000 hours to enrich the lives of others. In our 20-year tenure as a non-profit organization, CHP has served a diverse group of thousands of individuals, encompassing all ages and needs regardless of abilities and has made a significant lasting impact towards a fully inclusive, more caring community. Join us on our ride as we continue healing through horses.

Making a difference in the lives of those in need throughout the Atlanta community. In 2023, Chastain Horse Park conducted over 5,000 therapeutic sessions to children, teens and adults. Who are we serving? Although the majority of the participants in our program are under that age of 18, our adult program continues to grow. Mental health is a huge need within the community and we have seen a definite increase in clients needing assistance in this area. Autism remains one of the primary diagnoses that we serve here at CHP. In 2023 we served individuals from 28 counties across the state of Georgia and 185 different zip codes. Our primary counties are Fulton, Cobb, Dekalb and Gwinnett.

Atlanta mental health providers: We invite you to come and learn about Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and how to refer clients to these groups. Sip on hot apple cider and observe the horse herd with fellow clinicians. Then enter the horse arena to experience how this non-traditional therapy incorporates horses into mental health treatment. Envision a live sand tray with humans and horses interacting within their herds or systems. The arena space and horses symbolize meaningful things and relationships for each participant. The client's therapeutic experience of these interactions creates newfound insight and change. If you have clients who are "stuck", who could benefit from group therapy, who enjoy emotional support from pets, who love to be outdoors and would be open to trying something new and different, please consider referring them to supplement your work in the office. Upcoming groups are for adult women focusing on Grief and Loss in November and Anxiety and Depression in December. In 2025 we will expand to offer groups for teenage girls experiencing anxiety and/or depression. We invite clinicians to join us for this event (please don't bring clients). If you wish to enter the horse arena, we will ask that you sign a liability release and closed toe shoes are required. Please park in the main (free) parking lot off of Powers Ferry Road and walk to the covered horse arena at the top of the hill. We hope to see you there - rain or shine! For questions, please email k-equine@k-equine.com

Be a part of a community that is changing lives, one hoofbeat at a time. Reins of Hope is Chastain Horse Park's annual gala in support of our therapeutic mission. This year we are thrilled to have the guidance of our chairs, Sara and John Shlesinger, as well as the culinary talents of Chef Pano Karatassos (Kyma) and Chef Piero Premoli (Pricci). Help us to raise funds to keep programming costs at an attainable level and to provide scholarships to individuals and groups that need additional financial assistance. In Georgia, nearly 29% of adults live with a disability, while approximately 15% of children face developmental challenges. Moreover, the prevalence of conditions like Autism continue to rise, alongside increasing occurrences of genetic anomalies and the distressing realities of issues such as sex trafficking. Mental health struggles are prevalent, particularly among veterans experiencing PTSD at unprecedented rates. You and Chastain can make a difference in their lives. Each year, Chastain Horse Park delivers thousands of therapeutic sessions to individuals with disabilities, offering a comprehensive program encompassing physical therapy, occupational therapy, psychotherapy, equine-assisted learning, and therapeutic riding. Through these programs we witness clients gain confidence, improve their balance, increase their stamina, find their voice, improve range of motion, learn empathy, develop problem solving skills, and so much more! Our outreach extends beyond individuals, collaborating with various organizations across Georgia to integrate the benefits of equine-assisted activities into their programs. Partnerships include AGAPE Youth and Family Services, The Shepherd Center, Just People, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, City of Refuge, Skyland Trail, and Atlanta Public Schools, among others. Now is the time to continue to build on the mission of Chastain Horse Park. Following the success of our $10 million Healing through Horses campaign, our expanded and much enhanced facilities allow us to establish ourselves as pioneers in equine-assisted services. Our skilled team, alongside our remarkable equine partners, are poised to create a significant and enduring impact within our community. Annually, hundreds of lives are touched, hearts are moved, and spirits are healed through our programming. We know a difference is being made with the smiles on faces. We invite you to explore our therapeutic initiatives, contribute to our subsidy and scholarship funds, and join us in celebrating an evening dedicated to the healing power of horses.
