We belive the future of Chattanooga is rooted in the virancy of our neighborhoods and the prosperity of all our people

About us

CNE believes the future of Chattanooga is rooted in the vibrancy of all our neighborhoods and the prosperity of all our people. For 38 years, CNE has dedicated itself to transforming neglected neighborhoods in Chattanooga and ensuring the financial well-being of its residents. During this time, CNE has been at the forefront of strengthening the housing market by providing a range of affordable and income-restricted homes for homeowners and renters alike. Our comprehensive approach, which includes neighborhood investment, resident empowerment, and wealth-building initiatives, has made a positive impact on the target neighborhoods where we have worked. To accomplish our objectives, CNE takes a holistic approach. We invest in the development of affordable and mixed-income housing on vacant or blighted lots. We empower residents within these neighborhoods to become leaders, advocating for their communities and driving positive changes. Through our homeownership programs, we facilitate wealth building by providing education, financial assistance for down payments, and affordable mortgage options. Additionally, we offer home improvement loans and services to prevent foreclosures and maintain stable homeownership. Our affordable rental options help families save money, while financial literacy is actively promoted through counseling, coaching, and our annual Money School event. Moreover, our small-dollar loans serve as an alternative to costly payday lenders, benefiting local families by reducing excessive fees.

  • Chattanooga needed more middle-scale infill housing, and we delivered. Why is this so important? - To accommodate growth. As Chattanooga's population expands, middle-scale housing—like duplexes, cottages, and small apartment complexes—helps meet demand without the sprawl. This type of housing maximizes our city’s potential while preserving its character. - Keep affordability a priority. We are no stranger to rising housing costs in Chattanooga. These increases make it difficult for middle-income earners to find affordable dwelling options. Infill developments can offer more cost-effective alternatives to single-family homes, providing affordable options in established neighborhoods -- for both tenants and homebuyers. - Infill housing creates more diverse options – catering to different family sizes and lifestyles, from young professionals to retirees. The best part? We keep walkability and proximity to city centers in mind. After all, our mission is to create more inclusive, accessible housing with an enhanced quality of life for all Chattanoogans. Interested in learning more? • Last night, we held a Tienda Tour where local residents from the Highland Park, Oak Grove, and Ridgedale neighborhoods gathered to explore their local grocery options. It was inspiring to see community members come together to learn about the resources available to them. In light of ongoing discussions about food scarcity, events like these are crucial. They not only raise awareness about local food access but also empower residents to make informed choices for themselves and their families. Together, we can work towards building a more sustainable and equitable food system in our neighborhoods! Thank you to all of our participants for showing up to support our local grocers! Big thanks to our Community Engagement department leaders for organizing this event and being amazing tour guides! 😁 👏

  • Did you know? We're bringing more affordable housing to Highland Park! We are thrilled to announce that our latest project at 2003 Bailey Ave. is underway and making great progress! This development will feature two 10-plexes and one 12-plex, each designed to offer comfortable, affordable rental options to meet the needs of our growing community. This project is another reflection of our strong commitment to expanding access to housing for everyone in Chattanooga. As we bring this vision to life, we can't wait to see the positive impact it will have on residents. In the upcoming weeks, we will be sharing specific updates regarding the construction of our new development -- so stay tuned!

  • Urban design is more than just aesthetics -- it's about creating spaces where people thrive. Thoughtful, inclusive design fosters not only a sense of belonging, but also promotes healthy physical well-being and social connection. Why is thoughtful design so important? Well-designed public spaces encourage active lifestyles, provide opportunities for social interaction, and helps build stronger communities! Features like clean walkable streets, green spaces, parks, and accessible amenities directly impact the quality of life in our neighborhoods. But here's the key: A well-designed space doesn't just happen in isolation. Community engagement is essential to creating urban environments that work. For everyone. When residents are involved in the design process, the space reflects the community's unique needs, aspirations, and culture. This sense of ownership translates into responsibility -- people are more likely to maintain and care for the spaces they helped shape. CNE invests in communities, with a recent focus on the Oak Grove and Ridgedale neighborhoods. Our community engagement staff work alongside residents to strengthen leadership skills, enabling them to take an active role in improving their neighborhood. Our Community Engagement department organizes events such as: - Illuminate Oak Grove, an initiative where residents walked through their neighborhood to address needed streetlight poles, with the goal to reduce crime and cultivating neighborhood safety. - Dumpster Day in Ridgedale. A day-long event that provides residents a chance to manage waste within their community. These initiatives ensure that public spaces remain vibrant, welcoming, and sustainable for future generation. So whether it's planning a new park, organizing neighborhood events, or creating shared community hubs -- good design + community engagement = healthier, stronger communities. Everyone deserves to feel pride in their neighborhood! 👏 ✨ 🤩

Here we are for another DPA Friday! Thanks to all those who reached out with DMs. Unfortunately, the programs I’m working with are specific to TN. However, I’m happy to help connect mortgage professionals in other states to CDFIs in their area and walk you through how to establish a win/win partnership for your homebuyers and agents that, unlike some other DPA options, won’t adversely impact your bottom line. #DPA #downpaymentassistance #afordablehousing #cdfi #bottomline #homeownership Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise
