    We're excited to announce Dr. Jani Ingram as the winner of the 2024 Ely S. Parker Award, our organization's highest honor 🌟 A proud citizen of the Navajo Nation, Dr. Ingram’s groundbreaking work in environmental chemistry is dedicated to creating tangible solutions for at-risk Indigenous communities. As Principal Investigator of the Partnership of Native American Cancer Prevention program and Director of the Bridging Native American Students to Bachelor’s Degrees program, she’s a true leader in research, education, and mentorship. Dr. Ingram’s dedication to training the next generation of diverse scientists shines through her collaboration with Native American communities and her mentorship of students across disciplines. Dr. Ingram will be honored at the 2024 AISES National Conference in San Antonio, Texas. In observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, we welcome Community Campus Partnership Support (CCPS) Program participants Dr. Leah Mundell and Roxana Cardiel. In this partnership, the team has been working to bring communities together through school-based and neighborhood organizing, and capacity-building efforts. They engage students, community leaders, and immigrant families in this organizing and advocacy to work with local schools to address issues such as language access for Spanish speaking families and students. The partners discuss how immigrant communities overcome educational injustices through collective collaboration and leadership. Elsi Elena joins the discussion as a member of the Flagstaff community who has been involved in partnership activities with Leah and Roxana.   • This week, CHER researcher Louisa O'Meara is presenting at the Oklahoma Area Association Community Health Representative annual conference in Tulsa, Oklahoma! She is sharing her work as part of the CHRs WITH uS! (Community Heath Representative (CHR) Workforce Integration in Tribal Health Systems) initiative, bringing resources for CHR managers and coordinators to implement in their own CHR programs. The work we do at CHER is not confined to northern Arizona, or even the southwest. We strive to bring health equity research with powerful insights to communities nationally and globally, making us a center focused on ending health disparities for all. Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/gA39V7mu More about the PPP SHERC’s Investigator Development Core (IDC) supports the development of early-stage investigators (ESIs) and underrepresented (UR) faculty from racially, ethnically and other marginalized communities or disadvantaged backgrounds in basic biomedical, behavioral, and/or clinical sciences with a focus on translational research, team science, and mentoring. The Pilot Project Program (PPP) was established under the IDC to provide support and mentoring to ESIs and UR faculty in health equity research, with the objective of generating preliminary data that will increase investigators’ competitiveness for NIH and other external health and health equity-related research funding.   • The Culturally Centered Addictions Research Training (C-CART) program continues to make significant strides in preparing the next generation of clinical researchers.
