  • The Cherokee County School District’s School Nutrition department is searching for the best kid-friendly recipes that “par-slay the day!” The sixth annual CCSD School Nutrition Parent Recipe Contest in celebration of National Farm to School Month offers parents the opportunity to earn a $100 Visa gift card sponsored by Credit Union of Georgia and see their recipe featured on school lunch menus. This year’s featured vegetable, which is selected annually by Georgia Organics, is parsley. CCSD parents are invited to share their best kid-friendly side dish recipe using parsley as the main ingredient by 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6. Recipes need to be simple with fewer than six ingredients and not require grilling or frying. The winning recipe will be featured on all CCSD school lunch menus as part of National School Lunch Week in October. The official entry form with detailed guidelines is online at https://lnkd.in/enwduiQf #CCSDElevateTheExcellence

  • A Cherokee County School District schools has been honored by the National PTA for excellence! Little River Elementary School has been named a winner of the National PTA School of Excellence award. The two-year title recognizes successful partnerships between local PTAs and schools to make schools more welcoming to all families and to offer more opportunities for families to support students. Little River ES, led by Principal Joni Adams, is among only 319 schools nationwide and only 16 schools from Georgia honored with this recognition. The designations were earned through efforts over the past year by the PTA and school leadership. Last year’s PTA leadership team was made up of: Co-Presidents Susan Byberg and Magida Habib-Gonzalez, Vice Presidents Kristina Gambino and Vivian Gaviria, Secretary Christina Albertus and Treasurer Kristin Winzeler. The co-presidents, secretary and treasurer are continuing in the same roles this school year, joined by new Vice Presidents Kajal Zechariah and Jennifer Ugolick and Corresponding Secretary Kelsey Geist. • The Cherokee County School District's School Nutrition program has earned a statewide honor for serving locally grown food! The Georgia Public School Local Food Procurement Champion Award, which was accepted on behalf of the department by Executive Director Tina Farmer, recognizes the Georgia school district with the most purchases from local farmers through the Common Market, a nonprofit regional food distributor. The Common Market’s mission is to connect urban communities with local food from sustainable family farms. CCSD School Nutrition partnered with the nonprofit last school year to provide more Georgia grown produce to CCSD schools, including various varieties of local apples and lettuces.  Bill Green, executive director of the Common Market Southeast, presented the award to Ms. Farmer. #CCSDElevateTheExcellence
