#CNBInTheCommunity: Today, Cherokee Nation and Cherokee Nation Businesses employees, family and friends proudly participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s to raise awareness and show support for those impacted by the disease. Our booth at the event featured our various businesses, including interactive activities from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa and informational resources about Cherokee Nation’s health services for those affected by the disease in our communities. “Our company is deeply committed to ending Alzheimer’s and bringing hope to the families affected by it,” said CNB CEO Chuck Garrett. “Alzheimer’s and other dementias are an invisible disability that afflicts a third of Native American elders, as well as their families. Our mission is to let those affected by Alzheimer’s know they are seen, and we support them.” Through our company and employee contributions, we raised nearly $70,000 for this important cause. A big thank you to our employees who volunteered their time and put #ThePowerofPurpose in action with their efforts to bring awareness to this debilitating disease. #EndAlz #WalkToEndAlz

  • Our businesses are making major breakthroughs in Oklahoma's rapidly growing film and television industry! This week, Cherokee Film celebrated the expansion of Cherokee Film Studios with a ribbon cutting ceremony at their Owasso Campus. The campus is the first of its kind in Oklahoma and Indian Country, with the completed expansion increasing the state-of-the-art production space to nearly 20,000 square feet — including classroom space for the recently launched Cherokee Film Institute, which will provide training and education to Native Americans seeking careers in the film industry. “In pursuit of our longtime mission of growing the tribe’s economy, Cherokee Nation Businesses invests in new and diverse opportunities across the globe,” said CNB CEO Chuck Garrett. “We continually expand opportunities and advantages throughout northeast Oklahoma by supporting education, growing industries, providing jobs, improving health care, building infrastructure and more. As our businesses continue to grow and succeed, so does our ability to further support the tribe and remain a positive community partner for our state. The rapid and continued growth of Cherokee Film illustrates our continued dedication to creating new jobs, helping develop local economies and continuing to diversify our businesses.” Read the full article about Cherokee Film’s expansion at: https://lnkd.in/g73R5qxm

  • #InTheNews This morning, our CEO Chuck Garrett appeared on News on 6 to bring awareness to the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s, which will take place in Tulsa next Saturday, September 21. Having firsthand experience with the impact of the disease led Garrett to support the cause as a board member for both the National Alzheimer's Association® and the Oklahoma Alzheimer's Association, and he encourages others to make a difference and show their support for the cause. “Well, this event, of course, raises awareness, makes folks aware of the resources that are available, and makes them also aware that they're not alone,” said CEO Chuck Garrett, “It's important for us as a tribe and as a business entity to rally behind this, and because our employees, too, are directly impacted.” Cherokee Nation Businesses and Cherokee Nation invite all employees, their friends and families to sign up for the walk by visiting our team’s event page at: https://lnkd.in/gJpHMiq5 Watch the full News On 6 story at: https://lnkd.in/gNW6uPSr

  • This past weekend, during Cherokee National Holiday, Cherokee Film announced the launch of Cherokee Film Institute — the first tribally owned and operated education and workforce development center for Native Americans seeking careers in the film, television and entertainment industries. “We continue to illustrate that Native stories are best told by those with authentic perspectives. Empowering a talented Native workforce is essential to ensuring Native Americans are seen, heard and respected within this growing industry,” said Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. “This is more than a place of learning; it is a place of empowerment and a solution to a problem. Native misrepresentation stops here.” Cherokee Film Institute is an industry standard certification program, focusing on craft development, hands-on training and mentorship opportunities for anyone 18 and older. Tuition waivers are available for Native American applicants. Read more about the launch of this new business at: https://lnkd.in/g6R7hzVR

We were a proud sponsor of this past weekend’s Cherokee National Holiday! This annual event, celebrating its 72nd year, takes places every Labor Day Weekend in Tahlequah, Oklahoma — the capital of the Cherokee Nation. If you visited Tahlequah this weekend, you got to experience Cherokee hospitality presented by Cherokee Nation Businesses and its various business units. Cherokee Nation Entertainment's property Cherokee Casino Tahlequah and Cherokee Springs Plaza hosted a variety of family-friendly events, contests, art shows and activities, as well as free genealogy services at the Cherokee National Research Center. Our cultural tourism teams coordinated the Cherokee Artisan Marketplace, Cherokee Homecoming Art Show and historic museum sites for visitors wanting to learn about Cherokee history and culture. In downtown Tahlequah, our teams operated information booths for Cherokee Film, OsiyoTV, the newly launched Cherokee Film Institute and our meat processor 1839 Cherokee Meat Co. Wado, thank you, to everyone who visited our capital this weekend. We hope you had a great #CherokeeNationalHoliday!
