The Cherokee Nation Wildlife Conservation department kicked off its fourth annual controlled hunt this past weekend starting with the Cherokee youth hunt! Ten Cherokee youth, ages 17 years or younger, were randomly drawn out of 461 applications this year to hunt on the Cherokee Nation’s 4,000-plus-acre Sequoyah Hunting Preserve in Sequoyah County! 🦌 Wado to everyone who participated! We can’t wait for future controlled hunts coming up for our Cherokee speakers, elders, veterans, and our open hunt. Stay tuned!

What a weekend! ☀️ Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr., at-large Councilors Julia Coates and Johnny Jack Kidwell, and Deputy Secretary of State Canaan Duncan joined at-large Cherokees in Southern California for two days of community meetings on Saturday and Sunday. Over 800 attendees joined us in the Los Angeles / Orange County area on Saturday and the San Diego area on Sunday. Our hard-working Registration team helped about 380 people with citizenship or photo IDs and over 100 Cherokee citizens registered to vote. Wado to all of our exceptional Cherokee Nation departments that participated. We would also like to thank the SoCal Cherokee Community Organizations for their continued efforts in keeping Cherokee citizens connected throughout the year and for hosting us during our weekend meetings. #CherokeeGoodness
