A few years ago, one of our employees, Liz Hart, who now works in marketing in our Sports, Visitation, and Entertainment department, thought we should be recognizing community members for their kindness in Chesterfield. ❤️ She created Cfield Kindness as a way to connect with our residents and to encourage them to connect with each other! We've recently taken it a step further to go out into the community and reward the nominees as well, having them tell their story on camera. We take pride in listening to our employees' ideas and helping make them a reality but it all starts with their willingness to think outside the box. Way to go Liz!!👏

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has once again named Chesterfield County as a 2024 Triple Crown winner. The GFOA Triple Crown designation recognizes governments who have received GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award, and Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for a fiscal year. Cafe con la Comunidad came to fruition this past Tuesday. ❤️ If you've had the pleasure of meeting J. Elias O'Neal, you know he's passionate about the community that we serve. When he came to work for Chesterfield as public information officer in January 2020, one of J. Elias O’Neal’s goals was to put on an event to engage the county’s rapidly growing Spanish-speaking population and help them gain a better understanding of their local government. Put on the back burner in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, the idea resurfaced earlier this year. After reviewing best practices and strategies from other municipalities, O’Neal and Dalila Medrano, Chesterfield’s multicultural engagement coordinator, spent several months creating a grassroots communications campaign unlike anything the county has ever done before. The response was overwhelming. More than 200 people showed up – staff had to bring additional chairs into the venue’s main auditorium – for a meeting that was held entirely in Spanish. That number didn’t include the dozens of children who participated in fun activities hosted by Parks and Recreation and Libraries staff. Staff from many different county departments, including Social Services, Community Enhancement, Mental Health and Police, as well as the Virginia Department of Health’s Chesterfield Health District, were stationed at tables along the perimeter of the auditorium. Following a nationwide search, Chesterfield County today announced Kimberly D. Conley as its new director of Community Engagement and Resources (CER). Conley, a Chesterfield resident who has spent more than three decades with the organization, currently serves as the department’s assistant director and will assume the duties of her new position on Aug. 31. “I am so excited to move into this new role and to lead this great team of people in CER,” Conley said. “It’s been extremely rewarding to spend my career in Chesterfield County and I am thankful that I get to continue to do that now and lead this fantastic department doing such important work engaging our community.” ❤️ You can read more about this amazing accomplishment at our news release below: https://lnkd.in/e3a4hZF6
