“Violators will face fines ranging from $75 for a first offense to $750, as well as potential jail time.” The irony that the way to get some type of “housing” if you are experiencing homelessness in Mundeline is to violate their new camping ban ordinance enough times that you are put in jail is beyond the pale. This ordinance is one of many popping up around Illinois as municipalities decide their approach to addressing homelessness is punishment & harassment. Homelessness is not solved by hiding it. It’s solved by government investing in the permanent housing and services people need. Have you seen these types of ordinances discussed in your community? Let Chicago Coalition to end Homelessness know if you hear about ordinances in an Illinois community so we can push back.
