What do a cake decorator, a jeweler, and a cannabis industry employee have in common? They all became part of the fast-growing — and often well-paid — #quantum tech industry. A new CQE analysis shows that two-thirds of all industry-sector quantum jobs are open to those with a bachelor’s degree or less, highlighting this under-recognized fact about the evolving quantum tech workforce: it isn’t just for PhD physicists anymore. This has important implications for communities, economies, and workers of all levels: over the next decade, quantum tech jobs are expected to grow exponentially. And increasingly, companies are looking for quick learners, transferable skills, and a penchant for problem-solving. “The wave is still rising, and that means you get to carve out your career, your path, your tremendous opportunities, and you don’t have to know Schrodinger’s equation," said Dana Anderson, chief technology officer and co-founder of Infleqtion. The new findings released today are the result of first-of-its-kind CQE analysis of job posting data from QED-C and Quantum Computing Report. Read on to explore the findings, learn why some companies leave “quantum” out of their job descriptions — and meet the cake decorator-turned-technician, along with a variety of other people of all backgrounds (including a few PhDs!) who are part of the #QuantumWorkforce. https://lnkd.in/dEWkDUhD #MidwestQuantum #QuantumPrairie

A growing intellectual hub for the science and engineering of quantum information.
About us
The Chicago Quantum Exchange (CQE) is an intellectual hub in the Midwest that connects leading universities, national labs, and industry partners to advance the science and engineering of quantum information, train the future quantum workforce, and drive the quantum economy. The recipient of millions of dollars in government and corporate investment and home to some of the world’s top experts in the field, the CQE community is a central driver of US leadership in quantum technologies. The CQE is based at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering and anchored by the University of Chicago, the US Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Northwestern University, and Purdue University. Our community includes more than 50 corporate, international, nonprofit, and regional partners and more than 210 researchers, and is one of the largest collaborative teams working on quantum science in the world. The full impact of quantum technology is beyond our imagination. It’s also within our reach.
