Empowering Latinas and other Women of Color to to thrive personally and professionally and realize her true potential.
About us
Chica Project started in June 2011, with 10 Latinas from underserved communities in Springfield, Holyoke, Lawrence, and Boston with the goal to develop a strength-based youth leadership program that was rooted in cultural competency and the celebration of Latino culture. During the conversations that took place with our young women in that first year, we realized how important the burgeoning relationships between our participants and their leaders had become. In November 2012, Chica Project created a formal group mentoring program that linked to our leadership workshops. Chica Project has now served over 700 Latinas and other Women of Color. Today, we have active participants in Boston, Lawrence and Lynn along with other young women who attend our community-based programming, now called Queens Rise. We currently serve over 120 participants and engage over 60 volunteers. All of this is done in an environment that supports and encourages a deepened understanding of our culture and identity.

Chica Project reposted this
Yesterday, on Latina Equal Pay Day, I had the privilege of attending a powerful negotiation workshop hosted by Chica Project in collaboration with Working 4 Women and ZS Consulting. This event reminded me of how critical it is for Latina women to advocate for equal pay and fair treatment in the workplace. Did you know that Latina women earn only 55 cents for every dollar earned by non-Hispanic white men? This wage gap means we have to work almost an extra year to earn what others do in just 12 months. As a first-generation, low-income woman, I know how taboo it can be to even discuss pay. Growing up, many of us were taught to be grateful for any opportunity that came our way, which often stopped us from asking for what we truly deserved. But gratitude should never mean settling for less. Far too often, Latina women—particularly women of color—hesitate to negotiate for fair pay out of fear of being seen as overly assertive. This internalized belief that we should just be content costs us financially and perpetuates the inequalities we face. This workshop reinforced the importance of pushing past these fears, knowing our worth, and advocating for ourselves and each other. It’s time to break the cycle, have these conversations openly, and demand the pay and opportunities that reflect our true value. I’m grateful to Chica Project, Working 4 Women, and ZS Consulting for creating a space where Latina women can gain the tools and confidence to demand pay equity. Together, we can change the narrative and fight for equity for all. #LatinaEqualPayDay #EqualPay #LatinaLeadership #ChicaProject #Working4Women #ZSConsulting #NegotiationSkills #KnowYourWorth #FirstGeneration
